I am forced to buy a new AGP 8X GFX card for my desktop. My XFX Geforce 6600GT decided to retire last week. Unfortunately I cannot upgrade to a higher spec system yet so at this stage I need to get a GFX card for under R1000 to see me over until I can afford a complete new system. The card must be able to run a full HD resolution on my 22" LCD monitor and furthermore need to give me good picture quality when playing WOW. Since AGP is old technology, there seem to be very limited options. All that I could find so far is:
1. ATI Radeon 2400 PRO (Mustek)
2. Zotac nVidia Geforce 6200A (Take2)
The ATI seems to be the better card due to DirectX 10 support but if I understand the specs correctly it seems to be weaker than my old Geforce 6600 GT. (64bit memory vs 128bit memory).
If anyone here can maybe provide me with some recommendations as to:
1. Which AGP cards are currently still available in the SA market that I can have a look at and which supplier sells them?
2. If the ATI Radeon 2400 PRO is a good entry-level card?
I’ll prefer buying new to get warranty & support benefits.
Thank you in advance.
