so iv been smoking for about 8years and i have finally gotten to the point that i dont enjoy
the taste, smell of a cigarette
i really want to stop, now some of u are gonna tell me to just quit but im finding it really hard, tried the patches, gum, books and nothings worked.
has anyone got advice or ideas that might help i really wanna give up this bad habit, but every time i try i just give up and light another one:cry:

Coat all you cigarettes with Aloe bitter, eventually you will get sick of them ;)

1) throw away all your cigarettes
2) drink lots of water
3) every time you crave a cigarette, pinch the skin between your thumb and forefinger (until it hurts)

This method worked for me, no jokes.

The only way i have managed to do it is to go on something called welbutrin but the side effects for some are worse than smoking.

Been smoke free for something like 4 months, don't have many side effects. Zyban though is also fantastic. Both these drugs are made by the same people and literally within 2-3 days of taking them cigi's will seem disgusting to you.

Yup but do a bit of research on google. Generally good to know what you are dealing with, what side effects there may be. You should also look at the side effects of quitting because there are plenty. The reason being if you happen to have a side effect you can distinguish between the drugs and the withdrawal side effects.

Do not think you are good to go after one month, stick it out for the 3 month or 6 month period, i forget which one. Even then getting off th drug may be a task you will not cope with.

Very tough if you cannot stop by yourself.

Get somebody to kick you inna panties everytime you light up...

I smoked a pack a day for a few years and stopped by taking the nicorette patch. I also had to stay away from all sources of cig smell - restaurants, friends, etc. Whenver i had a craving, i would suck on a sparkler. I also had to keep my mind busy to keep it off cigs. I watched alot of tv series, played ps3 etc. I kept a pencil in my hand to simulate holding a cigarette. Eventually i got over it. I used to simulate holding my breath much as u do when smoking a cig.

All those psychological things help!

I sniff an allencarr spammer in our midst.

I find it hard to believe how nicotine is physically additive yet by reading a book you can magically change it into a mental thing. Anyone here of good reputation that has quit using this allencarr book?

I went to an Allen Carr clinic and I'm still smoke free after 6 months. I have to admit thou I've been wanting to quit for years Allen Carr just made it easier.

E-Cigs are working for me. I haven't touched a cigarette in 9 months. You will have to do some research, though. It's not just a matter of buying them over the counter.

Try cold laser therapy. I smoked for 15 years, tried Zyban and other methods, the only method that worked for me for longer than a year was the cold laser. It's much more simple than it sounds. Go here for info:

Click on the Centers button to see where you can go.
You go for 2 sessions 24 hours apart, and it costs about R900. If you want to quit, it works. I've been a non-smoker now for 1.5 years and can go sit in a smokey pub without cravings.

I'm not too sure about my reputation, but I stopped "The Easy Way" (Allen Carr's book) 10 years ago, after smoking for about 26 years, from standard 4. When I stopped I was on two packs a day, which went up drastically if I had a few drinks. I had tried lots of different ways, some more than once, but Allen Carr's worked quickly and relatively easily.

But no matter what method you use, you must really, really want to stop. Not because you don't like the taste any more, not to save money, not for the sake of your health, not for any other kind of "excuse". Don't look for a magic cure, or a reason for stopping, but wait until you have decided, with the utmost conviction, that you do not want to smoke anymore no matter what.

Good luck

To all the youngsters reading this thread, the best way to stop smoking is not to start smoking.

Resist the initial temptation or peer pressure; it is NOT cool to smoke.

Note: this is not directed to current smokers!

Also, stop while you are ahead... It's a lot easier to quite when you've just started, or before the habit has really entrenched itself...

It's really a crap habit to have, and costs you a lot of monies :(, you smell terrible, your breathe smells terrible, your lungs (obviously) take a heavy beating, over all, it's seriously not worth it!

Seventeen years of smoking, reached two packs a day, more addictive than two-dollar whores. Never again. Tried it all, hell I even tried willpower ;) Some swear by Zyban, never worked for me though. E-cig (M201) and good quality high strength e-liquid worked for me, feels good :)

Commit & follow through, quit for real, good luck! Thanks as always to Doug, if you're out there!

THis website is how you stop

Their philosophy is cold turkey is the only way
Seriously these people who managed to quit with zyban and electronic cigarettes? (ROFL) chewing gum (double ROFL)are the exception
The highest statistic of people who have successfully quit did it cold turkey . Because quitting is a personal thing and not something some drug can take away
Nicotine is the most addictive drug known to man… and people want to use replacement therapies ? makes no sense

Think about this, if you smoke 40 cigs a days. And for each day you stop one smoke. The 1st few days you won’t feel much of a difference . But after you are on like 30 smokes a day, you will start craving. And you will crave worse and worse each day until you get to one smoke per day. At which point you would have been craving for 30days!. THEN once you smoke that last smoke for that day, does your body only START the process of recovery and only three weeks after that will the craving start to subside. That a totally of 50s days of cravings = hell
Point being you need to throw those smokes away and do it cool turkey. It is the shortest and Most effective treatment there is

There are so many life changing points on that website it truly was a jewel helping me stop. I cant recommend it enough
