advice with motor dealership needed

yip I always have funny stories when it comes to cars; embarrassing but true unfortunately;

should have seen when we had a polo once, garage eventually said we need "cold steam" after they said cant be fixed the steering wheel pulling always;
and this was VW barons if I remember correctly;

anyway I do agree with you, get rid of this hot potato as quickly as I can;
kia themselves didnt sell me the car long out of warrently, definetly;
they though supposed to come with a solution, either by them or the the garage they sent it to;

latest news from the front;

apparently the ECU that the contracted garage sent me to buy is not matched to the key pair;
the garage that advised us to buy this particular unit; take the onus on them to find out what going on;
they gonna try swap ECU's around to see if one will work, and they even going to try get a hold of another picanto ECU and plug that in to see if that will work;

if it does then at least we now know whats the issue at long last..........
if it dosent, we will be back to square one,

I do hear you colin, I should have paid the 12K and had kia change my ECU and program it, but thats simply unaffordable to me;
I know I cant come crying to kia now, 100% agree with you;

so yes im on my own here, do agree with you there;
but still Im saying if they didnt manage to sort this issue out by now, what else they can do here;

You have been told this plenty of times here but you don't listen.

So let me say it again....

The replacement ECU and the transponder in the key need to be paired by KIA with their electronic diagnostic tools.

No i do listen, its just that i was assured it was paired previously with a key and i was given this key,

What the garage saying is the wiring diagram is not correct from kia themselves,

Hoping this gets fixed soon as this contracted garage is totally stuck becuse of my car,

Head Guy there really trying everything they can to fix my car and get it out of here.

Otherwise it become kia problem, and they wont like it at all.....

Next thing will be what fazda says,
Run for the hills very quickly!!!!
Dump this pos on them, get what i get and move on with my life.....
 
whew, what a day its been!!!!! after Another replacement ECU (R3,5K), in addition to the one I brought earlier, (3K)

finally car starts YAY!!!!!!
problem was the ECU as they did discover, but the problem was made worse by they supplying us an incomplete ECU;
apparently the ECU comes in 4 parts and they didnt give us everything, component that was missing was something that coded to the key as well;
something inside the ignition barrel as was advised to me;


was solved without kias help eventually, now comes the fun part, seeing how we can try avoid getting nailed by kia,
yes it was dealt with by the garage contracted out to them; but they seemingly not involved in the story here, we went and got our own ECU and wiring was done by somebody else;

dont know where I stand now, but we will see what happens now;

Id like to thank the guys on MYBB who gave me great advice, (especially boxerrules and fazda);

While I was waiting at the dealership, for transport..

This gent walks in, speaks politely etc. He is then told by the person doing the admin for the booking that he must call his boss. The boss must go there and pay R5000 odd rand as those are the parts and oil required for that service. .
 
The only time I've ever experienced paying upfront at a dealership is for special order accessories and even then, they didn't enforce it and I paid on collection.

Dude.. And o. Top of this he might still have to pay the garage more $$ for all the work.

R12k will sound like a dream when he gets the bill.
 
well guys; thanks for all the help;

managed to scrape through without paying kia;
paid another 3,5K for a different ECU on my car and its now working perfectly;

now the story is to recode keys and such; and fix the clutch and exhuast
but thats minor things compared to the car not running;

strange thing this that the ECU is broken; I though they last for a very long time;
but I suppose the previous owner tried to remap the ECU, and Fup the entire ECU,

so ! now have 2 ECU boxes that are paperweights but I understand they can be fixed up; and hopefully sold off;
do wonder about the airbag module though, got that as a bonus but my car didnt come with airbags;

wonder what I can do with that? suppose I must buy a steering wheel with airbag to be working;

as for the spare set of ECU's and airbag control unit, sure these things worth a lot, try to flog them on and at least get my cash back for the broken units;

have no idea if they even possible to fix?

Don't throw good money after bad. You've made a loss. Sometimes you do, and there's nothing you can do about it. But you can decide to stop losing on that car now.

You ended up with three ECUs because you have no way to test them and prove that they are working. How are you going to confirm that they have been fixed? By swapping out with your barely running car? My advice is get rid of them for whatever anyone will pay you as is. If they're repairable, let the buyer repair them - you won't turn a profit and you won't get your money back. Accept the loss, learn from it so that it's not a total waste, and move on with your life.
 
I have to somehow recover the almost 6K I spent so far on ECU's,

its almost half of what I would have spent had I gone with Kia and their 12K repair;

@colin, I hear you 100% but something got to give here; I want to fix up as much as I can, and since its near the end of the year,
maybe Ill manage to find a good special and get something decent this time;

I upgraded to a 2014 Civic Exec in May already :D
