I just got my new machine, thanks to all who advised me on specs for it.

for those who dont know the specs are as follows:

E8400 Core 2 Duo 3.0Ghz

DP35DP Intel Board

Gigabyte Nvidia 8500gt Graphics Card (512Mb)

2gb Ram (ordered 4 but didnt get it)

Seagate Barracude 500gb 32Mb Cache Sata Hdd

Isolo210 Case Grey

Hp DVD Writer

Samsung 2232Gw LCD (u guys recommended this screen-DAMN it looks sick cant wait to use-Thanks!)

Here are my questions -

first off, i will be using this pc for Photoshop, Illustrator etc.

I ordered 4Gb of ram, so i will get the other chip tomorrow. I have no OS yet, should i get:

1)Vista 64 bit Ultimate
2)Just run the version of Vista 32 bit I have
3)Run version of XP Pro I used to run

I just want to get this pc up, im happy to go buy a vista version, but is 64 bit going to run trouble free? what are peoples experiences with the os's on here?

And would you all agree 4gb is the way to go.

Thanks.

I'd advise you to get Windows Vista Ultimate x64. A lot of people are running it without any problems.

No problem ;) I actually have an OEM Windows Vista Ultimate x64 around here somewhere, but it's destined for my next computer. :)

Unfortunately I don't have that kind of money ;)

Nice system you've got there, I think I might've missed your thread about it ;)

Agreed.

Although, Windows XP SP2 or SP3 will do you just fine for a while yet if you want to go that route ;)

If you go for Vista, be sure to read up on a few Services tweaking guides. Vista has a bunch of stuff running in the background that nobody needs anyway.

4gb is overkill, vista is happy with 2gb, no less than that, if your going to purchase 4gb of ram and also intend to utilize the whole lot, best to get a 64bit OS

Trouble free depends on what type of a user you are and what your gonna use your system for.

superfetch the little brother of store.exe, it's not that bad and I haven't noticed a performance degradation, but then again were not all the same type of users

I use Photoshop, illustrator, and Ie with a few tabs open, at once. Not hectic tasking. No 3d rendering etc. I just dont have time for stuff to hang while opening, like on my current sempron - so thats why i was going 4 gb. .... so i dunnno?

If you are running Vista, especially the 64 bit Ultimate one, then 4GB RAM is never going to hurt. And RAM is cheap nowadays so why not go for it. It will have the biggest effect on your all-round PC experience for the lowest price.

I have to agree, Vista runs like a dream on a machine with high specs. Especially after service pack 1
