Affirmative Action here forever

all of them have gone overseas ? Since u are overseas is it fair to conclude u r one of them?

Yeah, we had our slave labour camp in our rubber and sugar plantations in Africa and thanks to them we were able to step all over them on our way to the Land of Opportunity. Of course we gave them all the boot when we left.

I guess all the blacks from Africa that live here in Canada are also one of "them" or do different rules apply in their case.

And why do you think these very smart black people left Africa?

Not all of them have left Africa for good. A lot of them are just working there...We also have a lot of them working here in SA from all over Africa. They are just here to work and nothing else. It's a matter of where the opportunities are and people will always follow that.

However, you do sound like someone who's been gone for too long. Do you wanna come back home? The doors are open. Bring back the skills you might have learnt in Canada. We could use them here and there, provided you were not waitering or sweeping the streets of Calgary all this time you've been gone.

Hmm... the people worried about skilled people leaving South Africa must just be dreaming it all up. Surely no doctors, engineers, nurses, accountants, etc. have left en mass for Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA, Canada... No it's not true. I live in denial.

I hope the people from Africa you are referring to is not the legions of criminal illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe and Mozambique among others. Because I think they outnumber the 'skilled people' from Africa by XXX to 1, if not XXXX to 1 (I want to hope it's rather XX to 1, but South Africa cured my optimism in life).

Whats the cost of living there though? How much is a can of Coke? Or a loaf of bread?

Canadian cities are rated in the 100 top cost of living cities in the world.

47 - Toronto

A case of cans of coke would be:

At the local safeway today:

http://www.safeway.ca/storefinder/sixframeset.asp?mainurl=http://safeway1.inserts2online.com/storeReview.jsp?drpStoreID=285

Coca-Cola Products
Assorted varieties. 24 x 355 mL.
CLUB PRICE Plus deposit and/or enviro levy where applicable.
24 cans for CAN$7.00 or R43.00 (or about R1.79 per can)

A loaf of bread about CAN$1.50

Geez you have cheap Coke :D I usually use that as a benchmark in the places I visit. Most expensive so far has been Schipol airport where I paid R23 for 500ml of K-Way .

@IAC: I've noticed South Africans place more value in job prestige than people in most other countries. In the UK, for example, people from all walks of life do all types of jobs - like bartending for example. In the UK there are bartenders doing it as a salaried day job - here is more often seen as a "student" job. Here people tend to associate "IQ" with their earning potential as well.

Don't make it sound like it's a south african problem. It's a global problem, more and more people are moving away from the developing world to find opportunities in the first world countries. Tough sh*t that's got little to do with SA.

Mr ImApartheidBeneficiary u tell me, since u said the benefeciaries left country I'm sure u r well versed about their racial profile as well!

And now u r labeling them as smart becoz they left the country?

It's a great thing u left the country;)

In denial again I see.

The government doesn't put much effort in removing them from the country. They are taking jobs that belong to South Africans when people employ them here for cheap (it does happen). It's so easy to get in and out of here. It's a complete joke.

Huge cartels smuggling stolen goods to neighbouring countries. A large portion of the crime is directly related to this.

HOW IS IT NOT A SOUTH AFRICAN PROBLEM?

We are not a first world country and you should wake up.

You are correct. Here in Canada there are white people cleaning the toilets in my workplace and when you drive past construction sites you see white labourers. Here people just get on with it. If South Africa was more like Canada in terms of the equality, safety and pure economic power then I would be back in SA in a heartbeat.

Wow!!! White people doing labour? What a concept! This might come as a suprise to you but its generally only in African countries and places where African were slaves where you find black labourers.

In america most menial jobs are done by Mexicans and they were never slaves there.

never heard that when i was there. Most americans are pretty happy to have somebody to the the "dirty" work :)

@ iMonga,

Take a chill pill dude! I was being sarcastic in response to your first post @ me. I am hardly your typical "Apartheid Beneficiary" because when I left SA I had exactly R2,000.00(RANDS NOT DOLLARS OR POUNDS!) in my pocket and a one way ticket to Canada.

I am sure there are a lot of smart people left in SA and you must be one of them.
