As someone who operates an establishment, this is rock solid advice for you @RedViking.

Booking.com is the largest OTA in the world and with that they have venues by the balls in terms of pricing. Prices are often at least 10% cheaper on booking.com than elsewhere. That said, we often give extra discount to people who book directly (and I know a fair amount of other establishments do too). So if you're really looking for a deal, try phoning around and asking.

As a base starting point for negotiation, the fees we pay to booking.com work out to around 20% VAT inclusive of the total booking amount.

ok, I just calculated nottingham road to didima camp, where we have been and it calculated about 2 hour by road. :) It looks like drakensberg region is rather huge geographical area.

It's more the case of the roads to Drakensberg are shyte, the berg is 188km from me the shortest route takes 2h45min according to Google maps.

Depending on your model you could be getting uncomfortably close to your ground clearance number on an Outback

LOL - I was wondering what the heck are you talking about and saw this one. I am pretty sure mahindra scorpio N would be fine for this but I am not sure what grade 3 means and I don't have 4x4 off-road skills.

But no signal and no wi-fi as per review - not sure how I feel about that tbh.
Only one self catering cabin on a 4x4 track (grade 1 to 3 depending on the amount of rain, low range not essential and 180mm ground clearance is sufficient) not possible by car

Didma camp Cathedral peak is pretty awesome!
There are several hikes/walks from the camp. The chalets are clean and all have lekker views. Can self cater or use their restaurant (breakfast Buffet is the tits).
Cathedral Peak hotel is less than 5km away if you are that way inclined.

Absolutely, awesome place but OP wanted accommodation closer to R800 night.

Yes it is beautiful up there. Have had lunch at the restaurant (even though service was not great), but accommodation is out of my price range. one day.....

Well as you can see I went with karretjie. The tar road starts with ANC sized pot holes and then it is smooth most of the way till it transitions to gravel. About 40KM of gravel and took me about an hour and 20 minutes on the 40KM of gravel. The road looks really good , just lots of rocks and stone, so went slow and it is beautiful. So you would not want forget something at the shops.
