Haven't been there in many many years. Are there nice gems for under a R1000 per night, maybe closer to R800, two people. Bonus if it is pet friendly. Needs to be private, quiet, nature, berg, safe, secure.

Just planning for a break for when we do have finances again.

Must be able to access it by vehicle. Don't have bakkie or 4x4.

Do you have a 4x4 ?

There are a couple but you never know what you get. Some of those photos (and prices) are very outdated. Would be nice to get recommendations from people who have in recent years been at a place.
I've been to The Nest hotel there. But it's not pet friendly and more than R800.

i have looked a few times at drakensberg on airbnb and booking.com and it really feels expensive for what you get compared to what western cape / gauteng offers for a bit of a nature retreat. Definitely a premium for the location and people take advantage of it with either premium prices or cabins/cottages that have been run into the ground.

Was going to say check out africamps as i think they have opened up a drakensburg location but google says its about R2k a night...

We have a place we go to in the Midlands, paying around R600 a night. But been going for many years so I think they charge us special rates, normal is probably R800/900,which is still very good. But Drakensberg looks very expensive to me. =(

ATKV Drakensville starts at R895 a night for 2 people. If you're on Vitality you'll get up to 25% off.

There are options within your price range if you're willing to travel to the FS side of the Berg.

Would like recommendations if possible. But I am browsing all areas for now.

Everybody I know who frequents the Drakensberg do so via a Holiday Club, you know somebody who has a membership they may be able to find you a place at a really good price

Would like recommendations of places people have stayed at.

I'm checking on Afristay, Lekker Slaap, Wheretostay and Airbnb.

Thendele camp chalets ? Some of my friends who stayed there recommended it to us but we could never find accommodation whenever we tried but then we were always looking in high season and this one is busy that time.
