I'm Thinking of getting this one. Net necessarily from Kalahari, I was just browsing. I'm in the market for a Bang for Buck projector for now. Not going to spend upwards of R 50k on one :D

Please if you are using projectors currently your advice would be appreciated. I'm new to this and want to install one in the bedroom for the wife for Christmas.

For a little more money rather go with an Optoma or Epson, the greater Lumens and 1080p 16:9 picture will give you more of a home theatre experience.

You got price ranges on those? I'll google and see if I come right. New to this so appreciate the assistance.

Purpose of projector?

Currently wife watches series from the laptop. Anything from STD definition to HD. 1080p will do, but even 720p is perfect. I want to take the laptop out of the bed and give her a bigger picture at the foot of the bed. If that makes sense?

If it is in the bedroom is a TV not more viable?
How will you do the sound from the projector?
If you go with a projector make sure it is 16:9 and not 4:3 for better a better fit of the videos.

My wife wants me to get a TV for our bedroom as well. No way I'm going down that road again! We had a TV a few years ago and the thing was annoying as hell at night as my wife would watch TV until who knows what time - remember, even if the volume is low, in a dark room the screen will prevent you from sleeping :D

Just a heads up :)

I've moved that TV to the kids' room now and they refuse to give it back :D

A TV can do I suppose. I just think a Projector would be something nice. Something I can use in the Lapa when Rugby Is on as well :o

Sound will be run via a sound a sound system. I have a 7.2 system at home I'll move it from my PC to the Bedroom.

Luckily currently she is in bed with the laptop but she's out at around 22:00 latest. I only get to bed at around 23:00 anyway.

Pitbull, the link below maybe out of budget but I cant fault the brand, I myself will be upgrading to the HD50 in a weeks time and I'm coming from the awesome HD65 (R7000). PM me for my dealer, he will hook you up with a demo unit to test in your space as well as some speakers for the December hols if you close by.

That is actually not bad. Maybe I should save R 6k this month and then buy it in January?

My chap will beat that price so PM me, if you close to Durbs I can get you some test kit to play with as well.

Another R6k will get you in range of 1080p units and possibly a nice fixed screen, or else nothing wrong with projecting onto a white/grey wall.

Do you have an amp for speakers or running a PC with HDMI?

Yea, currently have a 7.2 system hooked up to my PC. So sound should not be a problem. I'm in Pretoria though but will definitely try and get in contact with you once I have finalized the budget. Kinda trying to get a feel for what I actually need. 720p or 1080p...

I was happy with my 720p unit for the passed 4 years but side by side a modern 1080p budget PJ blew the HD65 out my lounge (below). I think you well within your budget to go 1080p, the real question is to 3D or not to 3D.

Do you have any model numbers for 1080p projectors?

Trusted brands for me will be Optoma and Epson due to local support and 2 year warranty, also lamp life is greatly improved on the Optoma range so I am told.

BenQ, Vivitek, JVC, Sony and Panasonic local support maybe lacking and you definitely don't get the bang for buck you do on Optoma. That said I am sure there are some trusted dealers out there backing their product.
