Has anyone heard anything about the incident in which Afridi took a swing with his bat at a specator as he was walking off the field on Sunday?

I would really like to know what will transpire of this, conscidering the whole Herschel incident.

Personally I think it's a joke - i don't think anyone should bother... spectators need to be diciplined as well then if we are going to dicipline the cricketers like they did Herschell..

Well the ICC is pathetic. No action will be taken against Afridi. I agree that nothing should've been done to the players but the ICC has to be consistent. They punish Gibbs for verbally abusing spectators but when it comes to physical abuse, it's ok. The only reason why the ICC didn't do anything was that SA didn't make a big fuss about it like the whiny pakis do.

Almost exactly what I was gonna say

Yeah, I agree completely - it just further hilights the weakness of the ICC.

Nope, he swung his bat in the spectators direction (only saw the clip once but I think it was close to his face?) but the guy ducked backwards to avoid it.

No action to be taken? Wonder if he'd have gotten a slap on the rist if he actually hit the guy?

wow, IMO that is WAY worse that what Gibbs did. I mean, come one!

The problem was they made it a racism issue. The cross was already prepared and you sensed that it's the end of a player's international career. A white player that is.
When it turned out to be Gibbs, who was rightly pissed off at the behavior of some spectators, they couldn't just say "well it's not that bad" because their own racism would have been clear to see.
Gibbs got a slap on the wrist and the crucifixion was delayed. Just wait for a whitey to cross the thin line and you'll see.

I heard the guy who claims to be the spectator calling on the John Robbie show [Talk Radio 702] these morning.

Well I still think he need to be punished if not banned from the cricket grounds.

for a 34year old to shout at a player it's uncalled for.

Apparently what he said was 'boom boom, back to your room'. Apparently Afridi is known as 'boom'. Now come on...is that bad?

So I guess it's ok to smack someone or try to smack someone and swearing is not...it's such a joke.

Exactly.

Sarcasm??

Basically he thinks u r sarcastic because he sees nothing wrong with what Afridi did. Basically, trying to take someone's head off is acceptable.

Gibbs was wrong in swearing but he was not being racist. He got punished and it was accepted. Pak cricket association lodged a complaint because they are sensitive. Lucky the SA guys are ok and they can take ****...

He cant be punished for swinging his bat at someone, if he hit the guy, completely different story...

In the end no one got hurt, it wasnt recorded... one of those things.

I agree again. What we need here is consistency. Gibbs was not being racist. But what he said was wrong. The fact that that kind of stuff goes on at every single cricket match and isn't picked up by the stump mic is another issue. He was caught, he was punished, fine...

But to say that what Afridi did was ok, is just plain crazy

I have to ask...sarcasm???
