Hey - give the man a break - With Afridi it was merely attempted assault - but with Gibbs... he was calling names! :D
 
Question: Who makes up the ICC (who makes the choices)? and from what countries?
 
I think that Afridi is in such bad form that the UCB didn't want to get him banned...

I don't know how lucky Aktar and Asif will be though. Looks like they might dis-allow the appeal ruling. I laughed when I read the article, they got off the hook because the PCB said it was their bad for not educating their players.... COME ON!!! WTF!
 
Shahid Afridi, Pakistan's mercurial allrounder, faces the prospect of missing a large proportion of the World Cup after being charged with bringing the game into disrepute in the first one-day international against South Africa at Centurion. If found guilty the ban can be as many as four Tests or eight one-dayers.

Afridi was seen brandishing his bat at a spectator who said something to him on his way back to the pavilion after being dismissed for 17 off Makhaya Ntini. Initially no charges were laid, but ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed decided to act after studying the video of the incident.

"Afridi has been charged with a Level 3 offence under section C 2 of the Code which refers to 'conduct unbecoming ... Which could bring (players or officials or) the game of cricket into disrepute," a statement from the ICC said.

The release added the hearing will be conducted by Chris Broad and will take place as soon as possible and details of its timing will be released in due course. If found guilty, Afridi could be banned for two to four Tests, or four to eight one-dayers. Until the hearing takes place, Afridi remains available to play for Pakistan.

Afridi, if banned, won't be the first one to be pulled up on this tour. South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs was banned for a Test, a one-dayer and a Twenty-20 International for abusive remarks at a section of the crowd in the first Test earlier in the series.

And i just saw the incident on TV from a proper angle. What he did was inexcusable. Anyone who defends him has lost it! He should be punished severely IMO. More so than Gibbs
 
yup, since it was after the gibbs decision, I doubt he can get away without a lengthier ban. Guess pakistan will need to pull up a few older players ;)
 
Only reason why I'm making a big fuss out of it (so is everyone else) is that Gibbs was banned for swearing and if no action was taken against Afridi then it would've been hypocritical. Just like how JK8 is...kept on attacking Gibbs' conduct whilst refusing to defend Afridi.

I agree. This is worse than what Gibbs did. Or even if you don't agree with that, you have to admit it is AS bad at least.
 
under the level that he has been charged, he can be be banned for up to 4 tests or 8 ODI's.

Which means he will miss some of the World Cup, if not all of it.
 
Now why did they decided on his punishment after his performance at the last ODI!! Very vindictive I think!!:mad:
 
Lol...what has performance got to do with bad behaviour? That's like saying an athlete that does well can go and assault people and they can get away with it...

what Afridi and Gibbs did had nothing to do with how well they played. Gibbs did well in that game where he was banned but he didn't get a reprieve.

He only got charged after he performed well and obviously could and is a huge threat to SA.

But O well Pakis on the back foot once again.
