Afrihost’s big network plans

They are?
Yes if it's OpenServe fiber which is what he is referring to.
Not sure what you mean. Fibre installation by Openserve in neighbourhood was completed early October. I signed up via AH within a few days. Waiting for OS to connect my home since. So OS is failing AH. Infrastructure is there and I am willing to pay for the service. Old (Telkom) habits die hard...
If you're already connected you can use your DSL account as well, but if you're waiting for them to hook you up, it's dependent on OpenServe, same for WebAfrica, ISPAfrica or other ISP that works on Telkom/OpenServe.

They didn't run it to your house, they just installed it within the neighborhood/offering it, so they still have to pull it the last couple of meters to your property.

Exactly. Therefore my original comment that OS is letting AH (and others) down.

Great

more SPAM emails from Gian incoming........

Just unsubscribe. Don't you know how?

Don't mind it, really.

Most other ISP CEO's don't take the time to make contact with their customers, as they see it as below their stature.

They ignore their unsubscribe links. My wife has tried several times. She gets the usual "sorry to see you go" style acknowledgement and that's it until the next time they do a spam run.

Cheeseballs!!!

We definitely support everyone's right to unsubscribe to unwanted emails. If you've been receiving the mails and don't want them, please PM and I'll investigate :(

You know it's not him right?

The emails that come from Gian (i.e. are signed with his name) are actually written entirely by him. If you ever met Gian, you would see that instantly. He also writes the newsletter intros (where it carries his name).

We don't ever write "fake" emails from Gian - he is very proud of his emails ;)

I already have 5+ emails from support promising my address has been removed but still I keep get Gian's unsolicited crap.

Any info on how partnering with Openserve is going? Waiting for two months now for my new connection so I can dump my ADSL and phone line.

If your area is already live for fibre, then you shouldn't be waiting that long. If it's planned fibre, we'll have to try and get an ETA.

PM me and I'll find out for you :(

That's good to know. And the unsubscribe issues raised here?

I think it is excellent that AfriHost continue to invest in their network. It will be to the benefit of all their clients. :)

Good service. They just need to get their routing sorted somehow. Some of us 'gamers' need this.

Doubt it will happen overnight. e.g. VOX tracert takes 16 hops to get to France server. Afrihost takes 24 :)
OT: It's because Afrihost have a lot more friends than VOX. It means you have to stop at more places to say hi. :D

They drink too much coffee at meeting points. But seriously they need to sort out the routes for international. For now I will stick with VOX for gaming... under 200ms to the EU .. happy days, about 30ms less than Afrihost.

Blah blah blah, call me when you're actually installing fibre here. Till then you're irrelevant.

I get excited everytime there is an email from Gian beceasue it is always some awsome deal or free extra data.
