Hi there.

Recently upgraded to Afrihost 1000/250 on Vuma GPON/Aerial - I live in JHB.
Wired connection to my laptop straight into the router so 1Gbps between devices.
Local speed test is good - 800Mbps + DL and 250Mbps + UP - as advertised.
Speed tests to London and new york seem throttled to 100Mbps.
Just want to know if this a 1Gbps local only connection with limits on international bandwidth or there is an issue somewhere?
See pictures attached

Thanks in advance

Try running this command as administrator and reboot.

Code:
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

Also try different browsers

Thanks for the quick feedback - much appreciated. Working on a Mac so not sure that command will work? Tried Safari and Brave and same story

Okay then it's not TCP windows scaling. Probably some buffer issue or loss on the line.

I had a similar issue on CellC fibre a few years back, and I randomly found a post on Cool ideas' website stating that the 1Gbps gets limited to 100Mbps internationally. I "downgraded" to 200Mbps and the issue went away and I could get my full 200Mbps local and international.

Might be worth reaching out to Afrihost and ask if the same is happening by them.

Morning.

Can we get more tests to international servers please. You may need to download the wget tool to run more tests, so we have more than the browser speedtests.

Please drop me a Pm with your account number.

Same speeds here on Afrihost with Openserve on 500/250 line in Hartbeespoort. Local speedtests is as advertised. International is about 100mbps down.

Full international speed on Openserve / Telkom by my dad's house.

My place as well - full line speed (London) on CISP / Openserve.

Sounds like a Vuma issue.

This is not a VUMA issue. I have two lines, two different towns, both on Afrihost and Openserve and both struggle to go over 100mbps on speedtests in Europe and USA. Both test fine on local sites

Ask one of the reps for a Openserve test account for their ISP and see if you get full line speed with that ISP?

On Axxess/openserve. 200/100. Same issue. Just given up on these scummy ISPs.

Results can vary wildly between servers even within London itself.

Agreed, but none deliver speeds higher than 100mbps on a 500mbps line

We definitely have enough capacity in all regions. The issue seems related to your line, packet loss on the line or a buffer issue on the OLT/ONT or some issue with tcp scaling.

More or less fine on Openserve 500Mb/s to London, so no, Afrihost is not throttling speeds.

Have never seen any throttling in the 3 years that we are using this line.

On 1Gbps MFN, latency was lower previously at 153 and speeds were 500 down and 300 up
now with the increased latency:

How do we get this issue fixed?
