Just checked their deals and the uncapped 4mb deal looks good, is it R397pm with data+adsl line rental fee?

You get a free gift when you sign up.

Gamers call it "packet loss".

So I am not the only with Gamers packet loss. Especially at night
Since AH went with MTN the network has never been the same
Looking around for new ISP

Packet loss? Oh no I do gaming everyday, but how are u guys getting packet loss? I thought its only the case with 3G

I've worked it out 4mb uncapped from afrihost would be R570 with the voice line from telkom. So I compared that with my current deal (Telkom simple plus) wouldn't this one be better?

But than again, Telkom's internet has been perfect getting 4mb speeds every part of the day. Getting a ping of 195ms on a EU server.

Maybe I could try out a trial first, right guys? Afrihost offers a trial?

I agree about AH and the packet loss - on a capped account that is supposed to be unshaped. It has been awful, at night, playing HOTS. My Windows Update wouldn't even complete last night - 53mb on 10mb line!

When I switch over to FNB Connect ADSL account, everything is perfect. So it's definitely AH and not line or router. Looking for new ISP as well.

Don't move to Afrihost if you don't have to. Their customer service is good but I've found that their ping in online gaming is a bit worse off than with mweb. I'm with mweb 4mb uncapped... Doing great. Average ping online for local servers is from 8ms to 30ms. Europe goes from 170 and up

I've just recently moved from Afrihost to Crystal Web. My reason for moving was the shaping non-stop on my 4mb over three days. Even before then, streaming was awful. Since changing ISP things have been bliss. OP have a look at http://crystalweb.co.za

R429 isn't bad from crystalweb, also how's mweb? How many gigs could I possibly download till I get shaped on a 4mb line from either of these 2? I think afrihost is out of the question now lol.

So far afrihost is the cheapest, which is cheap and offer good service? Telkom has been brilliant but R770 is too much..

Have heard somewhere that all ISPs basically offers a brilliant trial, but once you've switched, it's just not the same quality.

Yeah this is definitely the case with Afrihost. Their 1gb trial data always worked great but since I actually signed up the performance has been subpar. Every evening my ADSL struggles to get past 2.5Mbps (when I pay for a 10Mb capped line). Afrihost has blamed the exchange but switching to a test account with another ISP everything works fine.

As soon as I find a good alternative I'm cancelling. Will be glad to have them stop trying to sell me a Simfy account too.

Thanks for all the replys but I think im going to be sticking with telkom simple plus lol, I get 4mb speeds any part of the day/night.

Thanks, just went through it.
The guest account is always hard to base tests off though :( It doesn't run via IPC links, so it behaves quite a bit differently. While not ideal, but do you have any other accounts lying around to test off?

Exactly why trial accounts is not indicative of real world internet experience!
