Not sure if this is the right place, but let me ask for some advice here.

Yesterday, my girlfriend tells me the internet is locked (I was out for the evening), and she had to go to her friends place to get some work done, this morning, I log on and its locked. So I call Afrihost, and I get cut off after waiting 10 minutes. I call again, 40 minutes later i'm helped. 20 minutes later, the problem has been found.

Apparantly I've voilated some kind of AUP thing, and the guy on the phone tells me I will have an email waiting, and then I can sort it out. He also promises me he has told his supervisor and his supervisor will get back to me with more details. This was at 10am. I'm writing this at 6:30pm. So I dig up my Axxess unshaped account, and log onto my email, nothing about any AUP violation at all.

So now, I ask for advice, i've been sitting for over a day without access to my Afrihost account, surely they can't just lock out someones account for a day for no reason? I honestly can't wait till the end of this month, and I'll never have to deal with these thieving $#^&s again. So, anyone got an suggestions? What can/should I do?

i got the same email too this morning..
you have to go to client zone and after u login you will be diverted to a page where they ask you to state the reason for the AUP infringement and what you intend to do...ie, remove offending p2p software and such.

still waiting to be reconnected..

What a bunch of chops - cancel and go with someone else and save yourself all the BS. Locking accounts, geezuz, what crap

William, I was told I was going to have an email, and if I did, I would have dealt with all of this BS, BUT theres no email. The guy on the phone said something about because my account was going to be cancelled end of the month everything had messed up. Thats not my issue. FFS.

Edit: You got any idea where in the client zone I can find this?

Aah that famous south africa "ya, i'll call you back" promise used so often but rarely ever actually acted upon....

I also recieved a mail now about a torrent download. I am shifting ISP's end of month now. You think these morons would be trying to hold onto as many clients as possible after their latest fail. Anyway all the best afrihost.

Happy Afrihost Cancellation customer.

MWEB has been good to me.... SO FAR *Touch wood*

thank god i cancelled my afrihost account as soon as they started throttling at the end of march without warning.

... done just over 130gb now with mweb uncapped and all's still great. i used to love afrihost and recommend them to everyone... now it seems like they're full of bs. locking accounts and completely cutting you off your connection is just pure... ***.

they wont fold, they're just picking off the heavy downloaders ... sucks. they weren't ready for this uncapped thing but its do or die right now...

Hmmm... nice to know, that using less than 15 gigs this month so far, i'm a heavy downloader.

Well, after 2 days of support fighting, etc, I have found out the issue.
I live in a complex with about 120 different flats, and we all share one landline no, and because someone else in my complex has done something naughty, I can't get online until he has filled in his AUP form, so basically, I was told, I have to sit and wait, or go find whoever did this myself.

You have 120 people sharing a single ADSL line? Yikes! Even a 4Mbps line would not be usable, methinks!

120 peeps on one line?

Hectic. You guys were warned well before the beginning of the month though, some wanted to stick with afrihost because of loyalty but in the world of IT related stuff loyalty is a game for silly buggers :D.

And they're probably picking on heavy downloaders that -cancelled- [as the OP indicated]. So it's not like Afrihost have anything to lose by doing this. The user already indicated they're leaving and most likely will use the account "to the maximum" while it's still active. So it's probably a bit of a catch 22, ensuring that the customers who's still left do not feel a need to cancel also, by limiting the damage from the ones that are cancelling.

Chances are the people that ARE cancelling are not the ones below 30GB usage so far. I bet large majority are ones that are throttled already and that imply "heavy downloaders" .

I received the notice and I am on a normal month to month account, not uncapped. So doesnt look like its only the lost uncapped customers. They just dont have a clue whats going on there at the moment.
