I ordered Fibre over a week ago with Afrihost. I have openserve fibre availibilty.

Signup went smooth. Openserve arrived Monday at about 9:30. Only one person arrived.

Some of my street has openserve aerial fibre and my side must be done from the small manholes planted one the front yard. We dont have telephone poles so they installed fibre underground.

Above is how the small manholes look with the fibre splitter residing inside it. This manhole sits inside my yard. The tech didn't have the tool to open it and secondly he didn't even bothered with trenching.

I am left speechless.

He just left. Contacted afrihost, and what a suprise. They were not able to help me sort this problem out!!! Now I'm left scrathing me head and dont know what to do???

Afrihost and openserve fail!!!

Anybody that can shed light on this, please!!

Hi,

Apologies for the bad experience you are having with getting your fibre installed.

Openserve has different contractors for different rollouts. It might be that the order was assigned to a contractor that does Aerial installations and they would not have the tools to trench.

I would like to see what the status of the order is and try to get some feedback from Openserve for you.

Can you send me your clientzone email address via a pm so I can investigate?

I cancelled my order subsequently. If I sign up again what can you do that this does not happen again? I really like afrihost, good service. But this time I was left with a bitter taste in my mouth. I really was looking forward to my fibre installation on monday but then this happened.

Can you please steer me in the right direction please.

I can't guarantee that this might not happen again as we do not have control over the Openserve installation teams and their network but I can try to assist in getting you installed by escalating to our Openserve accounts manager.

Okay, must I first sign up again?

I don't see how shaming Afrihost is appropriate.
Clearly this was out of their control.
I always had exceptional service from them. I also contacted them and tried everything to get this sorted. But nothing worked.

I will sign up again with them if thay can help me sort this out.

I think let's see what is the status of the current order. We might be able to just get that order pushed for installation.

Send me your clientzone email address via a private message let me see what we can do.

I fully understand, I was told I had to pay for the fibre cable, last mile my responsibility, which I did, R2200, the installers refused to leave until I paid, so late in the day, rain just turning heavy, I went and withdrew the R2200.. Got no help from Afrihost..

2nd.. Afrinatic says that openserve will not respect speed tests from a wireless device.. Afrihost just accept this and do nothing to fight for clients... Really poor..

Was there something wrong with your fibre speed?

Yes, as in no speed, so I cannot speed test as the test will not be considered, I explained this in a DM to Afrinatic and so far, tumbleweeds.. I was conned out of R2200 by the contractors hired by a 3rd party contracted to Afrihost... And Afrihost took no responsibility.. Just nothing...

Silly question, why cant you plugin a laptop or something into your router and do a speedtest?

Macs do not have ethernet, and 2nd, that is not the problem, the problem is that openserve are telling the ISP's what to do, and the ISP's are simply not doing a good job at fighting this myth..

3rd.. Speed testing on it's own is useless, it is akin to revving the car and calling the car good, the only way to know if the car is any good is to drive it, put it under a load, a load test, test the gear box, brakes, cooling system... We need a speed test app on the router or ONT that can be remotely accessed... But no...This is way too hard..

ok, so you only have mac's. Who needs the speedtest? OpenServe or Afrihost and for what? Does the line not work at all? Apart from the trenching fiasco, what is the issue here?

Openserve apparently refuse to accept wifi speed test results.. The issue is the poor quality of customer service from Afrihost, and I am just warning folks of a well known scam, that came about as Afrihost did not change the terms and conditions of the fibre section on their website... As a result I was scammed.. got the money back, no help from Afrihost...

Mac user here.

Hold ALT and then click on the wifi logo.... 99.9% time of there's something wrong with your router's wifi, the Tx Rate will be a very low number...

So if your Tx rate is proper, like in this case 527 mbps, then the connection between your laptop and wifi router is good.. but when a Speed Test is still low, then there's most likely something wrong with the bigger connection, eg Openserve or ISP.

As a matter of interest. What fibre speed did you order and if you do a speedtest what is the result?
