These result are what I get almost every day. That 3rd hop is almost always high. I think Afriman told me you'll were working on changes that would improve things. So not sure if you'll are still working on those?

That third hop is still a tad high.

Better, but still high. We're definitely still working on it.

AH, when is the "Fix my line" feature coming back to the cz?

As soon as Telkom realizes how much of a waste of time DSMS is, and gives us back the ability to adjust ADSL line Sync is...

On the serious side, we're hoping we can come to an agreement with Telkom in the next few weeks, so hopefully sooner rather than later.

Maybe you should NOT have been irresponsible and given every one of your customers access to it via your portal.

AFAIK the facility was made available to you as the ISP to assist your customers.

It created more of a workload for telkom as customers were willy nilly in changing their sync speeds, Which caused stability issues, Which resulted in an increased number of faults being logged for technicians to be dispatched.

So, You effectively ruined it for all other ISPs. Thanks.

Not sure how it is irresponsible? We strive to give our Clients as many options as possible, and all the Fix my Line does is a Port Recreate along with adjusting the line sync to find the best possible sync for the line. It seemed to work a bit better than DSMS does, which I have yet to see log a fault automatically, or notify us or the Client if the line is down as ASSIA is supposed to do.

If this were true we would have seen a significant reduction in line faults being logged, which I'm afraid has remained quite consistent with the pre-DSMS period. The idea was for the system to allow Telkom to reduce their pool of technicians and support staff, which I'm afraid DSMS and ASSIA has not really been successful with.

No really now. You need to own up and accept responsibility for this being taken away from ISPs. You can bitch about DSMS as much as you like, it won't change the fact that you guys are the primary reason for its implementation due to your own irresponsibility.

If this was intended as a joke, I can assure you that it's too soon...

By allowing them to mess around with synch rates, they attempted to push it to the limit even though it was physically impossible to attain that rate. Then they would log a fault, meaning a techie had to be dispatched. Techie would get to site and very quickly realise that the customer (for example) was too far away to get a full 10Mbps due to distance. Techie would drop it to the next stabile rate and close the fault. Customer remains unhappy and pushes it back to 10Mbps... and the cycle continues.

As their ISP you were passing the buck.

I'm confident that if we were the reason Telkom removed this functionality then only we would have lost this functionality. I'm also quite confident our Telkom Service Managers would have asked us to remove this functionality instead of removing this functionality from every ISP in South Africa.

Your confidence is misplaced/ill-placed...

We have a decent and open working relationship with our Telkom Service Manager, in the past where there were issues with how we were handling escalations and processing of faults the objections were quite clearly made known to us, I don't doubt this pattern would have been deviated from.

If you have information that is contrary to this, you're welcome to share it here, if we did something incorrectly in our interactions with Telkom I definitely want to know about it. :)

Sorry AH for opening a can of worms - was not my intention.
Was just asking as a matter of interest as many times that feature really helped me when my line was giving trouble.

:)

No worries! Seems there are widely differing opinions on the matter.

Very cool link! Thanks!

Will the Tech on the Chat be able to adjust the line sync if the ADSL line is with a non-Telkom ISP?

Unfortunately not :( But they will escalate it to the next tier of support and they will do it :)
