Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

Maybe Afrihost needs to made aware of this. I wasted a lot of my time with Telkom trying to get the exchange tested as Afrihost claimed it was an exchange problem. Telkom also charge if they send out someone and the problem is not on their side. I wonder if I can charge Afrihost my hourly rate for wasting my time? I really don't have time to continually do tests, etc, when the problem is clearly on Afrihosts side, other ISP accounts work 100%

Please check up on my PM, I'm still waiting for a bit more info from you.
We're aware that some exchanges don't accept ICMP requests.

All they wanted to do was give me a refund (and I know that means being cut me from coming back to Afrihost ever again). But thats not what I wanted and clearly shows me that something is wrong with the network.

I would never offer a refund to someone if I wasn't "guilty" in some sense.

All I want is some transparency. Please can we be told if you are running at full capacity. Its actually better to just tell the truth, then have a bunch of angry customers leave because nothing ever gets communicated to them. There is clearly something wrong with DNS, capacity, etc when there are so many users throughout South Africa complaining. Why cant we just be told the truth? :/

I'm under the impression we're troubleshooting with you, unless we're looking at different tickets?

The exchange issue. I was told on these forums that this was a Telkom issue, I asked if Afrihost could do anything as you guys manage my line. I was told no, I will have to call Telkom. I did this, and you know how long a person has to hold on for, and then I had to go through a lengthy process of explaining the issue and arguing with them because of the information Afrihost had given me. Now I hear it was never an issue to start with. To say I am irritated is being polite.

I did a few tests last night but not tracerts as no matter how many I send nothing gets done, and my speeds remain poor. But with the account details you sent me, the account still cannot download a driver from NVidia at more than 100KB/s although it starts to download at 856KB/s and then quickly drops. Using an Imaginet test account the file downloads at full speed. The problem is I have now used up this account so I cannot do any further test. Speed tests this morning before 07:00 show full speeds, after 07:00 speeds seem to take a drop and it just gets slower. Youtube is basically useless, streaming useless, even Steam updates just sit, Windows updates take forever just top do a scan and see what's available. I am even having issues now logging onto the ABSA site.

I'll need further tests from you in order to escalate the query for you.

"What I could do in the interim, is credit you for the data for October?"

Pulled straight from one of the replies in the ticket thread with the ref# above. Maybe you were troubleshooting, but nothing came from it. I didnt think I would need to follow up to get this done. As far as I am concerned, any other ISP I use, FNBConnect, Plugg the issues go away. In fact up until 1st October, even my Business account was perfect. So something happened around that time (reached full capacity? - I dont know), that caused this problem.

Now the issue is this. I work from home, I do conference calls to Head Office, etc. Require this to do my job. It would be nice to be told, "guys we have a problem with capacity, streaming and bandwidth is going to be affected for the next 2 months". I can then make a plan, cancel the service, etc instead of being told "we will fix it (whatever "it" is)" and it never does get fixed. I then have to waste money by getting capped accounts from other ISPs, etc just to do my job

As per the latest reply, we're waiting on a bit more feedback for you.

I dont know if I am going crazy or my Gmail was hacked, but the last reply from Afrihost critical care on that ticket was (on the 9/10/2014):

"I understand, unfortunately at this stage we making changes to the network.

Currently both accounts are not working optimal.

Let me chat to my manager and find out what we can do in your scenario,

I will revert back. "

AFAIK - revert means to return or reply?

My apologies, I was looking at the wrong ticket :( DOH!
I don't see an update from you, I think it would definitely be worth your while to update it and continue communication with our team.

I learnt a long long time ago that if an ISP isn't working for you, it's best to start an ISP walkabout, as generally, things don't change, or take very very long to resolve.

Did so. Hope this gets resolved by the 25th because I am certainly cancelling if not. When it affected my work, it became a problem. Lets see

It's just up and down every few seconds. Last night was even worse. 300+ ping to the local game servers, which would even be sort of playable if it weren't for the massive spikes.

Can someone explain to me how we went from a functioning system to this bull****? Are your paying customers here to stress test your under-development system?

There are no issues on our network.
I can see the latency is jumping around quite a bit - could you PM your details so we can run a few more checks?

Yes, there ARE issues on your network!
Especially since the so-called "upgrades".
First the NORTH experienced MORE issues since the upgrade, and now the SOUTH is having similar issues - timeouts, latency spikes, multiple periods of no response and no throughput, etc., etc., etc. - the list goes ON AND ON...

Fix it already... either there are serious issues with your relationship with MTN, or both your and their technicians have NO idea on how to implement a network upgrade without it affecting EVERYONE...
Surely, more capacity (IPC) should have speeded up/improved the client's overall experience?

So... which is it?????

Any issues that are there, we need to look into this on a case by case basis and create and trends from there.
There is no breakdown in communication/ relationship between ourselves and MTN.

and yet....
Here we are....

Case by case is a waste of time. The proof is in this thread - you have a diverse number of people, using a diverse number of devices, over a large area (the whole country)... This usually indicates that there IS a problem. Actually, it indicates an even bigger problem country-wide with the network than what we have been experiencing for the last 3 months. The upgrades have either not helped, or they haven't been implemented correctly, so that the ORIGINAL issues of "contention" were addressed. Now, there are some with the original throughput problem AND the new latency and non-responsiveness problems.

All one has to do is READ all the posts in this thread (never mind the previous) since the upgrades, to see how it is not going well at all. This is just from observation, and also experience. My account "seemed" better in the 4 days PRIOR to the upgrades in the SOUTH, but now is a hit-and-miss.... that tells me, and others all I need to know

Don't think that's the case, the data gathered is always useful.
By simply reading a thread, we cannot justify implementing changes, tweaks or anything else without looking at proper data.

But so many people coming to this thread to discuss and provide feedback is in itself considered data - even on an individual basis. Data is information - whether it is numbers or not. And the fact that so many people are complaining provides information (data) to you as the ISP that something is up. If these threads are not going to be used as part of your data collection then the thread itself is useless - why even have it then?

We've all done speedtest, tracerts, etc etc etc and nothing seems to be coming of it. So we have all provided numbers and feedback to you. All of that is data - and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that.
And i agree - my adsl has been **** since the IPC upgrade.
