I've been noticing low speed in general as time has been going on. Rarely if I use a single thread (Eg ftp or http) do I get above 200KB/s. Sure if I download two things at once I can max my line but I never had to do that until more people started moving over to business. A typical example of streaming something from the states would be www.crunchroll.com (anime streaming site), on Afrihost Businesss I have to stream in SD, on a 1 gig home capped account from webafrica I can stream at 720p.

The whole reason I got business was to avoid the congestion that home uncapped was having when MWeb had a huge jump ship.

Cancelled my business account since Afrihost has become the large downloaders ISP of choice and quantity is winning over quality.

Guess it's more line than service... Ticket logged. No internets for me today then :(

This on a 8MB Business Uncapped. I should get a refund for these continual sub par speeds.

I have 2 x 10mb Business accounts on different exchanges, work & home (Durban North & Stamford Hill) and today everything is running fine on both. Just tested both simultaneously (Teamviewer is great!) and I'm getting nice pings & full line speed on all protocols.

If you can max your line on one or multiple downloads, it means that it's not a throughput issue on the ISP network, but load or limits on the server or file seeder.

We definitely don't plan to do nothing with regard to the quality of experience our clients are seeing at the moment. We've got an order with Telkom for more capacity in the North and South, and we're waiting for this to arrive so we can bring things back to our vision of Business service.

That looks pretty scary. Could you post the full trace route so I can see where this latency originates?

I'm not convinced of this. I think it's common knowledge that OOKLA's flash-based speed tests aren't really representative, so I've been using testmy.net's for a good while. Fact is single-threaded performance is weak, and has become progressively worse over the months. It's difficult not to be mildly disappointed with Afrihost at present. For whatever reason - with no changes in equipment and few changes in habit - this 'business' account is performing worse than home uncapped did a year ago, and costing a fair bit more. Going backwards is never fun...

I'm having trouble with Disqus not loading properly or signing in on any local website today. Is anyone else seeing the same issue?

AfriMan,

I noticed something the other day, on the Static IP account you can't access Google Play Store on an android phone.

But if I use a normal Afrihost account it works fine.

I wonder if you guys could try replicate this on your end?

Thanks :D

Is it timing out completely? Haven't check it out myself, will give it a shot :(

odd how my complains and posts about speed issues never get responded to on these forums, do I need to change the currency I use to pay Afrihost each month? I have speed issues it seems every evening. You online support is never active after hours, I wait forever to get through to support, which is a expense calling from Cape Town, sending an sms, never works either as I never seem to get a call when I am able to check things like routers etc.
