Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

I have this at our office in JHB, can only get up to 2mb line from Telkom in the area. The performance is shocking. Very poor speeds. (sometimes 0.25mbps).

Sounds like your physical line might be an issue. Whats your exchange congestion looking like?

You pay for the service so you get to use and abuse the service.

@AfriGuy... I can't do 900GB every month, I would need to buy a new 3TB drive every month at that rate. But I do see 400GB in my future :)

Now here's a thought Afrihost, rather have 3 or 4TB drives on special rather than routers (or both). Will be an absolute new for an ISP :)

I used to only manage an average of 230gigs on my previous 'home' account :o. Well now I'm gonna dload nothing but 1080p movies and series and see if I can break the bank

Ah ha! Now we have someone to blame for the shaping!
*downgrades account to ISDN* :p

In all seriousness though, these Business accounts are properly awesome! Time to stock up on those HDD's!

Please could you log into your router and post the router stats for you line?

Post a tracert to www.google.co.za then we can see what the exchange looks like, and as Orihalcon said, please post up your line stats that your router gives so we can see if your attenuation or SNR are too high.

Ok I will try to do this on Monday (don't know how but I will Google). Off to CT tonight. Somebody stop me. :D

How does one contact AH for support on a Business DSL line i have had for one day and i am offline, tried two routers, refreshed settings etc, no adsl connection. Was on home uncapped for 2 weeks and shaped to hell. Not even a customer for a month.

How does one gain access to the 24/7 support advertised on your website?

You can email us on [email protected], SMS 'help" to 32541 or use our Live Chat feature. Only telephone lines close after midnight on weekdays and at 3pm on weekends, but our support staff are available 24 hours a day.

Bussiness DSL account. I just meant four concurrent connections to the server on that download.

OK, I see what you mean now :)

It could be when that when our shaper kicks into action (not you being shaped, but the shaper acting on the network in general), there could possibily be a momentary drop in throughput, but looks like from your graph that it's for a few minutes, which is not generally the case. I'm also checking on our side to match when changes were made on the system for time logs that might correspond.

Can you PM me a more detailed graph so that I can see if they do correspond? To be fair as well, depending on where you're downloading from, there could also be increased server load hitting at 8am. So we'll need to investigate more thoroughly

Either I'm misunderstanding you or you are reading that graph incorrectly; that's hours not minutes.
The only graph of today's traffic I have that shows finer details doesn't go back to 8AM but here it is:

I noticed when I came home just after 4 it was going at about 360KB/s. I switched to my capped Telkom account just before 5PM to test and as you can see on the above graph it runs at full line speed when download the same file from the same server on that account. Obviously I didn't leave the download running for too long on the capped account - it's the spike at 5PM on that graph.

I'm no expert, but I counted twelve blocks between 0600 to 1200, so each block represents 30 mins, right? I'm assuming we're talking specifically about the major drops - or are you just talking generally over the 12 hour period?
