Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Anyone else having slow steam downloads today? I'm on a 10 meg line but steam is only downloading at about 400kb a second.

It started updating about an hour or two ago. My capped one is fine (whew) but my Business account is way behind ;)
I've done 5.6GB on it today btw.

This business account is really epic though. Wish I had the needs (and financial resources) for a 10Meg account :)

Yeah, the Business account is legend. But Afrihost doesn't seem to want more of my money because they don't want to convince Telkom to upgrade me to 10Mbps. I'll pay for 20Mbps at the drop of a hat too.

Send a pm to TelkomZA and plead your case. He helped me to get from G.DMT up to ADSL2+ and I'm rocking this 10meg line now :)

Now my exchange looks fine, but higher latency on hops afterwards??

If you're still having an issue on your exchange, especially intermittent, then the latency could appear at any hop. I'd always recommend running 2-3 traceroutes to compare. Latency in the same hop consistently shows a definitely issue. If it's all over the place then the issue is elsewhere.

I also do believe there were problems in Durbanville yesterday until 7-8pm on the Telkom exchanges :(

We'd love to be able to guarantee those kind of requests, but we honestly can't. Moving lines and Telkom infrastructure fall squarely with Telkom. I can promise that we will do our best to get them to put you on the highest sync rate possible, depending on what your exchange can handle and how far you are from the closest exchange :)

Well I've heard plenty stories from various people I've spoken to from the exchange only supporting 4Mbps to others saying it supports 10Mbps and to the DSLAM backhaul not being provided with Metro-Ethernet which is required for 10Mbps. The best I've heard though was Telkom's website telling me max speed in my area is 1mbps.

The exchange is under 1km from my house and the DSLAM even less.

Line attenuation is DS - 14.5 US - 8.5
SNR is DS - 31 US - 12

SNR used to be 33... Don't know what happened.

Just pm TelkomZA and talk to him. It might just be worth your while :)

Done that already. They suggest I gather up a few folk in my neighbourhood and register for demand but they don't say how many folk.

Seems like it would be easier to just move in order to get higher speeds.

Imagine a stranger knocking on your door...

Me: Hi, please register some demand on the Telkom website.

Neighbour: Piss off... We use mobile data.

Oh crap, so your DSLAM/Exchange only does 4Mb? Eish. Yeah that's problematic then :(

You wouldn't be the first one. One of our directors actually ended up moving because the Telkom infrastructure was so terrible :(

Remember your have the exchange and then your closest Distribution Point (DP). If either of them has a lower limitation, your achievable speed is only eligible for the lower of the two speeds. SO you exchange could even be VDSL, but if your DP is limited, that's what you can get, and vice versa :(

As I posted, it depends on the weakest link in the chain. If somewhere on the line you're stuck on an older card or DP, then you'll be stuck until that point is upgraded :(

What's happening tonight? Speed tests are through the roof for this time of day. Not going to complain though.

Anyone having problems trying to reset their line in Clientzone? I get an error almost immediately weather in the online version or via their Android app. "Tweak ADSL Line failed. Please try again. If you still have problems, please contact us." Been going on since last night.

It seems that the old clientzone does work for me.

It happens from time to time. Just try again later.

It always doesn't work for me if I am resetting using the ADSL line. If use the Tweak My Line whilst connected via 3G or from my office, it works perfectly.

It depends on a couple of things. Firstly, if you're submitting the command from the same DSL line you're tweaking, it will fail everytime because it loses the connection, so it can't get the complete confirmation.

If the issue is on the exchange itself, we are sometimes unable to complete the action, and get an error for the action.

You can always PM us if you need help. I'd also recommend rather submitting the Tweak My Line command off your Mobile Data if you have it :)
