Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Nope, spoke too soon - guess it was a brief, shining blip. Youtube is still constantly buffering.

It definitely seems much improved today. I can reliably stream 720p for I think the first time since using the account. Were some modifications made or is this a really ridiculous coincidence? :)

Good to hear it, no changes have been made on our network.

Last night Netflix was horrible, buffering every couple of minutes. Never had that before. Put up some ISOs for download and hit linespeed for a long time, so it was probably the NetFlix stuff getting prioritized somewhere. Hulu was bad as well.

How was your YouTube performance last night? NetFlix and Hulu aren't officially supported, however this is still a streaming service and isn't getting shaped - so you shouldn't experience poor performance here.

Yep - replied to you yesterday. I'm running Ubuntu, but I created the same rules in iptables to no avail unfortunately.

Could you PM me a traceroute to YouTube along with your account info and I'll take a look at this for you.

Sorry, didn't notice. I rely too much on Tapatalk for quote notifications. Too bad it didn't work. It made a big difference on every PC in my household.

Can someone give me some feedback regarding gaming on the business uncapped accounts.
I use my account mainly after hours and game on servers in Europe.
On the Afrihost website it mentions that the business accounts are guaranteed to be completely unshaped at all times.
Given that the bundled options work out to about the same as I'm paying at the moment this seems like a good deal.

If you'd like to give the account a shot you can sign up for our free 1GB account as they are both Unshaped products, so it'll give you an idea on what to expect :)

To be honest I don't really youtube. Will keep an eye on the NetFlix/Hulu tonight and if there are issues will check youtube. Not that I'm complaining, I've basically abused this account this month to see what shaping get applied to it and it just keeps asking for more. It's like my router has turned into a nympho.

I am Black Ops 2 most nights online. Been with OW for quite a while and generally jamming was fine. Most issues were related to me getting host sometimes. The moaned like hell.

I switched to Afrihost 6mbps Business Uncapped of Fri and Fri night I got asked a few times what I had done as hosting was smooth.
I have also noticed less lag and my constant tanking problems (which I got used to) have reduced significantly.

Not aged on any international servers though. My son does and he says the connection is better. Did not elaborate though.

This logic of hammering the account to see when you are put into the naughty corner doesn't really compute, as it all really depends on how the internet gods are feeling in that moment in time when they decide to load the network or not. I suspect Afrihost has quietly upgraded their capacity, at least in cape town.

Glad to here that things have finally stabilised, and that you guys are getting some good value for money out of your packages barring the few that are complaining about poor international speeds.

Which IPC are you connecting to by the way?

In Durban, so using either it or JHB. I've downloaded around triple what I normally download so that I can see what time things might get shaped as it gives me a good exposure over a lot of days. Like you said, if you always online there is a better chance of seeing when things do get shaped.

Anyone have any idea why sometimes pages refuse to load and you have to refresh the page a couple of times before it does?

Also anyone know why I can't connect to the internet via wi-fi on my tablet?

Both issues appearing after switching to Afrihost Business.

Afrihost can't be blamed for your wifi issues. Just nose around your router settings and see what's up. Try other devices and reconnect the tablet after manually 'forgetting' your wifi connection.

I've been on Afrihost business for a few months now and I've never had weird page loading issues. And my wifi has been unaffected.
