Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Hey bud,

I am having high latency issues on local games with a different ISP, I am also based in Strand. However on my 1gb afrihost account there are no latency issues at all.

Well, can't speak for another ISP. Must be an issue on their network. If you're Free GB is working nicely, maybe time to change? ;)

Can I ask any 10mbps Business users to give an idea of the kind of speeds they can achieve on NNTP during office hours?

Business is unshaped, so it'll be a little over 1MB/s if you're using a good provider. Why do you ask? Is your business account broken?

I'm evaluating the account for the second time, and wanted to compare results with others to establish a baseline I should be comparing to. Is your estimate based on actual experience or speculation? My NNTP downloads do not exceed 350-400k/sec - hence the question. Thanks!

My 4Mbps business account does everything full speed 24/7. Check earlier pages in this thread. I'm sure I remember some 10Mbps guys on here.

Very strange. Either there's a WC issue today, or my exchange is congested - though I've never had the issue in the past. Even local speedtests aren't exceeding 5mbps. Line stats are excellent. I'll wait to see if it changes after hours, thanks. Is there a way to pinpoint exchange congestion for sure, or is it pure guesswork?

No point waiting until after hours. You're on a business account - it's designed for office hours use. It's generally easy to determine if congestion is present. Just post a trace route to google.co.za.

Blotted out last parts of my IP, but I don't see any obvious signs, and that speedtest from Axxess is odd, considering they're on the same network..

Are you sure this account that you're evaluating is a 10Mbps business account? Are you using Afrihost's DNS settings?

@Bryn26 yeah - by "evaluating" I mean I signed up today with the pro-rate discount for the rest of the month, with the intention to carry on using it or cancel before the 25th. It is most definitely a 10mbps uncapped - at least that's what I paid for and what it says in the Clientzone, so I hope so :)

Very frustrating. Everyone seems to max out their lines 24/7 on these accounts, but I can't replicate the feat, now or last time I checked it out. I'd ideally love to bundle the line and the account to save some cash - but it's pointless at these speeds. Support was unable to help me diagnose the issue last time either - I just have no idea what the cause is.

Get a free 1GB Afrihost account if you don't already have one and compare it to the business account.

One thing to bear in mind is that if there is a problem at the exchange or on the line, your first immediate speedtest will look better when you have just synced and gradually deteriorate.

Best to run consistent tests, on both line to compare with and average.

There are no known issues on the network and we're not seeing any similar complaints on Capped, Uncapped or Business.

I'd suggest we run some more troubleshooting to find the problem. I'll reply to your PM and get your details for our specialist team :)

Many thanks Afriman.

1gb capped on AH is much the same:

It is definitely not the line though. I can maintain full line speed after hours, which wouldn't be possible if the line was faulty. So either an exchange issue, or I have no idea :) Will wait for your response.

Sounds like you're in touch with Critical Care now, so let me know how the testing goes. Hope you can pin this down :)

How are these business accounts during the evenings?

If you're looking to download , you'll be at full line speed day and night. I haven't had a better downloading experience from any other uncapped account at any other ISP. Browsing is good, but you might run into a few problems from time to time.

Hello Afrihost

It has been close to 2 months since leaving MWEB and I must say everything is absolutely amazing. Unfortunately this month something catastrophic happened to my 1TB HDD with all my games on it. I bought 2x3TB HDDs in Raid 1 and I have come to re-download all my steam games. Needless to say I have used a ridiculous amount of data this month (~250gb on 2meg bus uncapped), however my speeds and service levels are great. I am by no means a power user but this month I had to be, Max Payne 3 is 30gb and GTA4 is 15gb etc, it all adds up :P.
