Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Just have to say after great frustration with MWEB and then switching to the afrihost 10mb uncapped consumer line, I was extremely frustrated with both having ridiculous levels of shaping and being unusable some times. HOWEVER, after a few weeks on the afrihost 4mb business line, I could not be happier, full line speed any time of the day. I can stream HD video from the states and my slingbox is working great. I really hope this plan continues to work this way as this is the kind of internet I have been wanting for the last six years since I moved to South Africa. Thanks Afrihost, I hope it keeps up.

Hit 5pm and AH Business speeds up a lil' int. Local is fine. :D

Int. is about 80% - Capacity..? MTN.

Local::

Unfortunately linked to your landline.

Using it on another line/number would entail phoning Afrihost support to have it actioned there. Pity. Highly inconvenient. Would be awesome if it could be used on any number provided one concurrent connection at a time!

Are you sure about this? I have used this account on different lines to test and have not had a issue, of course you can only have one connected at a time.

How do I go about getting my line back to Telkom?

Ever since my line has been with Afrihost, which is a matter of hours, streaming has been piss poor. When my line was managed by Telkom I hardly ever had these issues.

It's performing like a 2Mbps line now.

Ag nee man!!

Anything wrong at the mo? My inet connection speed dropped by at least 50% about 15 to 20 mins ago.

Running max 4Mbps of the 10 currently.

There shouldn't be any difference here though. The change over is simply a paperwork change - none of the routing changes at all.
Is anything else slow on your end?

Streaming is poor, speed tests hardly ever go above 3Mbps... Tried a test download and was averaging 150KB/s.

I posted my trace routes here earlier after you asked for them and you didn't reply.

Everything is just slow today.

Sorry :( I'll do some more digging on my end to see what's happening here.

what are Afrihost plans in terms of the speed upgrade??
nice to see axxess offering the same price for the new speeds, will AH do the same?? considering they effectively the same company

We're still reviewing this on our end, we should have something official soon :)

Hi all using a business acc, I need to ask one thing, when services where slow during the IPC failure, was all services equally slow, just need to make up my mind if it is worth my while using the business account during an IPC failure in future. I personally thought about upgrading due to the statement on their site but as you guys did not have full speed, I hesitated .

It ain't matter what account you have, if there is IPC congestion/failure you buggered, all the accounts break out using the same IPC for that region

Business uncapped? Pretty sure. Haven't physically tried it but that's what I've been told. Perhaps Afri/guy/man/girl can confirm...

Still not running at 100% speed..

Edited because I noticed speedtest used the George server...

I wonder if the Battlefield 4 downloads are congesting the networks.

Thought it was only Netflix I was issues with but I tried to stream an episode of Grey's Anatomy...

Standard definition, file size = 624MB, Duration = 43 Mins.

Connection is so bad that the Apple TV tells me I have to wait 14 minutes before I can start viewing.

All that's required to stream a file of this size and duration is 2.1Mbps. My 4Mbps connection is now so useless that I can't even do that.

Edit: 22:50 and my connection can only muster 1.5Mbps on speed tests to a local server.

I am convinced that this is related to my line being migrated... I never suffered from such poor speeds previously.

Even the capped account is performing like a mule!
