Theres a high ping result there :/ Does the speedtest run normally then kindof stop and spike a bit? Thats a sign of exchange issues :(

Z

Yeah...the speed tests stop and spike and stop and spike. International seems a lot faster than local though. The test from Cape Town to JHB is quite pathetic.... max. 1MB :(

This has been going on now for a while... ever since the sync speeds jumped from 10012kbps to 10236kbps. Dropping the line speed makes no difference, it's just slower, so it is definitely not the line itself. Must be the card/port at the exchange, as I also notice "shaping-like" behaviour at certain times during the day (must be Telkom, will log a fault with them).

Thanks for your help Zertop ;)

You're not Somerset West are you?

Like I said I will be back once it is sorted. The day everyone says it is all up an running again I will log in and reactivate immediately!

I have just signed up again as according to you guys it should all be back up and running again tomorrow. Do not disappoint me :P

AH have been cancelling their cutomers' credit cards and bank accounts without permission. Afriman has threatened to cancel the world by the 10th of April.
The way things are going, I reckon there will be a cancellation, but not a customer.

K cool because im having seriouse packet loss issues at the moment im my clients(Gamers are getting down my throught) how long will the upgrade take about???

That's kinda the nature of your job - dealing with precisely these issues without resorting to cancelling accounts. Pubic perception of these precise issues was created months ago already by Afrihost - not your clients! You had every opportunity to turn this around through acknowledgement, acceptance, and a good faith gesture. So between yourself, and management structures, you guys have failed on that front.

It's a tough job you have, granted. And occasionally you will slip up. No shame in that. And you will have difficult customers. I don't think Jeanre was difficult, I think he was legitimately frustrated. At that point in a service business you become his flippen psychologist and life coach all in one, especially when it plays out publicly. This new era of public engagement requires new ways of looking at customers. You will never ever win cancelling a customer's account publicly. No matter how justified you feel you are in doing so. In this case I for one believe you weren't, and there was a very simple middle ground to be had here.

I appreciate that you've now engaged Jeanre privately. That's great. Where was that before cancelling his account? You've gone about this arse-about-face. All it requires is an apology, and a commitment to let this be a learning curve for all involved at Afrihost. It's all good and well offering some form of goodwill later down the line, but that doesn't cut it for customers right now. Getting 100 gigs in a month's time solves nothing. Fix your schit, or refund customers. Stop taking on new customers, or at least do everything in your power to alert new customers to the current issues. Those were Jeanre's issues that he raised. He did so with some creative language, mind you, but that's the nature of this customer service beast. You had every opportunity to turn it around as a business, and you failed.

It's not the end of the world. I respect what you do - it takes balls of steel, conviction beyond belief, and a very level head. You failed on the last point this time around. Time to admit it. That's the only way people will move on, which is all you'd like to see happen...

^^^--- This right here is a flippen great post!

We are assured that Telkom will be delivering on time with the IPC. Crossing fingers, toes and every available digit that there are no delays or hiccups :)

Sorry to hear that. We do see mild packet loss when there are periods of high contention, which is why we need to shape as aggressively on Uncapped accounts to try to control contention.

The upgrades we have in store for short and long term should ensure that we don't see this anymore.

Seems like it's looking pretty good there :)

Has that not gone through yet or is there a time later today when the switch-on will happen?

My 2MB Line as it is now, for what it's worth.

Not bad, let's see how it all holds up now.

Edit: HTTP downloads also top out at over 200KB/s as expected.
