Again, what did Charl say from TelkomZA?
There are some issues on the site that we are trying to resole as quickly as we can.
Try signing up directly from ClientZone for now.
The thing is, some guy from Telkom, came to the house and swears to me that the port I am on has no congestion whatsoever, he said everything looks good on their side. Either Telkom is lying to me or something else is seriously wrong. On top of that my ticket which was being dealt with AH's critical care department, has suddenly changed and no some other guy is dealing with it. It's really hard to get something sorted out if I have to re-explain and re-send the 50 odd tests on numerous accounts I've done when there's a new person contacting me every few days.
I can't sign up for a free capped account from ClientZone it seems.
This is the problem with AH support. Each stage of the communication is dealt with a new person, they should really keep tickets to one person IMO.
What did TelkomZA say?
Please PM me, let's see what's happening. It may conflict with a product you already have.

Could you possibly log onto your router and post your stats

Hey
Have a look at this:
http://www.naschenweng.info/2008/10/16/adsl-significance-of-snr-and-attenuation
Looking at your stats with my limited jack of all trades knowledge, all looks good except for SNR on the upload side.
I also have a 4mb line, my stats are:
SNR - down - up
30db 25db
Atten - down - up
14db 22db
A good thumb suck IMO is if the line is bad all the time, then I would say it's a line fault. If it's only at certain times then I would blame congestion at the exchange.
So, if it's all the time then I would log a "noisy line" fault and make sure they check/reseat all connections between your wall socket and the exchange.
If it's only sometimes, then PM TelkomZA, but be nice (even though you must be pulling your hair out by now) as you catch more flies with honey and with ****
He/she/they took a couple of days to reply when I PM'ed him/her/them, although, I didn't have any problem, I just wanted to know if it was possible for me to get 10mb speed, which they could and did answer (although the news wan't good - max 4mb, no plans to upgrade the mini-dslam anytime soon). I drive past it every day, maybe I should accidentally crash into it one day and blame it on a puppy running across the road which will be more plausible than pouring petrol and burning it to the ground like a service delivery protest. I'll hold off on that strategy for now as there isn't any exchange congestion, and I like to follow the rule that if it ain't broke don't fix it, so although 10mb would be nice, 4mb is sufficient
If it's something more serious like an exchange problem (which is out of their hands and is handled by another department which is more secretive than the CIA) then I have formed the opinion (from what I've seen here on the forums) that they tend to ignore the more difficult problems/questions, this is why I say it's best to be as sweet as pie, which will improve your chances of getting a reply.
Also, you say that Telkom have been around to check your setup, and they say all is fine?
Apparently not all telkom techs are equal so keep logging a "noisy line" fault online if your problem is all the time and hopefully you will get one of the competent ones.
If it's only sometimes and it's the exchange, then I suggest you try all the avenues and don't give up, keep pressure on them, maybe petition your neighbours (by the way, what are your neighbours' experience like ie; is it just you?) around you to bug Telkom until they can't ignore you guys anymore, but this is Telkom we're talking about, and they pretty much do their own thing no matter who complains. I've heard of guys hassling them for 2 years before they finally upgraded the exchange.
Or speak to Pam Golding to see what area has working ADSL and move
Hope this helps![]()

the **** we have to go through to get what we pay for
In defense of Afrihost...
excellent support....
Imagine Telkom trying to explain themselves like afriman did in this thread!
My personal experience is as follows:
I Logged a call with Afrihost last Sunday displaying abysmal internet speeds.
they told me that my issue was with telkom
After some denial, It turned out to be the case "the idea of it being a Telkom fault is too horrible to admit"
I logged a call with telkom (you have to log a call online, and when you do it an automated response is sent via sms), yes, my money is good enough for them to call me when I have an outstanding bill, but when they are not delivering on their end of the bargain, you never even get to talk to an actual person.
Meanwhile I had a whole conversation with afrihost staff via clientzone, with them trying to sort out my line (which is not their job)
Thanks Thandiwe, Ronny and Sanushen for sorthing me out
and especially AfriMan, for going taking the abuse that you did
Looks like my line is sorted out now
I`ll stick with afrihost a bit longer, even if only for the support
