I must say my speed today has been great managed to download 23GB and that was not even downloading all day. This is a change as its been really crap recently.

Glad to hear that things have improved for you. Let's hope demand stays like this until we get the upgrade. I imagine with the long weekend coming, maybe demand will be less over this week.

In defense of Afrihost...

excellent support....

Imagine Telkom trying to explain themselves like afriman did in this thread!

My personal experience is as follows:

I Logged a call with Afrihost last Sunday displaying abysmal internet speeds.
they told me that my issue was with telkom
After some denial, It turned out to be the case "the idea of it being a Telkom fault is too horrible to admit"

I logged a call with telkom (you have to log a call online, and when you do it an automated response is sent via sms), yes, my money is good enough for them to call me when I have an outstanding bill, but when they are not delivering on their end of the bargain, you never even get to talk to an actual person.

Meanwhile I had a whole conversation with afrihost staff via clientzone, with them trying to sort out my line (which is not their job)

Thanks Thandiwe, Ronny and Sanushen for sorthing me out
and especially AfriMan, for going taking the abuse that you did
Looks like my line is sorted out now

I`ll stick with afrihost a bit longer, even if only for the support

I'm glad to hear that you're happy with the service we provide and that you'll continue to trust us with your services. I really do believe that we'll always do what's in our client's best interest :)

I just have a quick question...How would I go about getting my noise margin fixed. I used to be able to use 10megs around the December holidays without any issues but now all of a sudden I can't go higher than 6 megs because of the Noise margin on my line. I contacted Afrihost but they just logged a fault and did not say how Telkom would go about fixing the problem. I have attached an image and yes, it is a brand new router...

Noise Margin and Attenuation are usually a function of the quality of the cabling in your area and the distance from the exchange. In some cases, replacing cabling, or upgrading fibre to the exchange or DP does make a huge improvement, but that's generally scheduled by Telkom - not in response to a fault.

General fixes implemented by technicians only usually marginally improve these stats. Also, if distance is the determining factor - you may need to wait until Telkom build more infrastructure in your area.

The KZN looks quite busy today, but not sure if it would result in latency results like this :( I'll follow up with the team and see what they say.

My Web Africa account gives double the average speed compared to my Afrihost Business Premium account :(

Seems I did jinx it. Been a steaming pile of doggydoo the last few hours.

Finally got a reply from TelkomZA today.

"As per our ADSl test tools, we checked the exchange you are attached to - Congella 4 - the utilization graph shows no errors, the Bandwidth Uplink is only operating at 14% , which means this exchange isn't being utilized during office and peak times. more than enough capacity available. There seems to be IPC issues at Afrihost side which they are in the process of ironing out."

So if it's not the exchange congestion, which has been the common blame lately, then the only thing to blame is the IPC issue for now I guess. Hoping when Telkom finally decides to deliver things will improve.

Try with another ISP account. If you still have poor results, then I blame the line, as your upload stats look dodgy.

Are you able to replicate the issues on the Telkom guest account?

I've tried an Afrihost capped and uncapped account, the Telkom guest account and the free Axxess capped account, all give the same kinds of results. Speeds were really great this weekend, but now they're starting to fluctuate a bit again.

All are on MTN (except Telkom) so, you really need to test an ISP on another backbone. I've PM'd you.

Does your latency stay pretty much the same across all the accounts too though?
