There seems to be serious issues in Cape Town with Telkom lines.
My line was performing PERFECTLY for a year since installation in a new area (Sunningdale, Table View). For the last 2 weeks, my speed has been erratic and all over the place... now I am told my SNR is too low, and my line was dropped to 8MB with no difference. In the last few days, the line now drops regularly. For the last 2 days I have had no line at all, with even the phone being dead. It has tried to sync for hours, and it finally came back 20 minutes ago, but now I am synced at 6MB. When trying to use the AH CZ to change it back to 10MB, those options arent even there :(

I have spoken to a few others in the area, and it seems that people in Milnerton, Table View, Big Bay, Parklands, etc, are also experiencing similar problems.

Is anyone else having the same issues?

EDIT: I have an open call with Telkom logged on 10 April, but nobody has called me, or responded.... AND NOW THIS???? :wtf:

Try syncing when your phone is off the hook, I've heard that that increases the power or something improving SNR, until you get it fixed.

Do you mean disconnecting the phone, or picking up and getting dial-tone, then try syncing?
Coz I have noticed that when the ADSL drops, the whole line and telephone drop, until the ADSL syncs - this would confirm my suspicions that Telkom carries voice over an IP-based network now, and NOT the old analogue... I only say this because before, if your ADSL was resyncing, the phone still worked.... now it is not the case, the whole LINE drops (ADSL + VOICE).

My point on all this, is how the hell can I now not be able to get 10MB (after a year?).... it's not like I picked up my house and moved 2km further from the exchange? If it were the cables, then why do so many others have the same issue?

....something wrong here :(

Sounds like a line fault somewhere along the line, possibly causing a fault on both voice and ADSL.

Has a technician checked your local DSLAM?

Something is definitely not right here :( I'll have a chat with our team to see what's happening here.

Same here, also KZN (Morningside, Durban). Latency is all over the place - Gaming is a nightmare :(

I'm following up with our team around the issues in KZN. Seen two other guys mention similar issues on another thread.

We are receiving reports of increased latency and slow speeds on our East network (Durban and KZN region). We are investigating with MTN, but this currently appears to be an IPC related problem. We apologise to affected clients and assure them that we are making every effort to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Please run some more trace routes and post here if you can - we want to see if we're getting closer to a solution. I promise that our team are on site and busy working this right now.

Indeed, I'm not disputing this, just suggested that as a "quick fix" to get by.
