We are receiving reports of increased latency and slow speeds on our East network (Durban and KZN region). We are investigating with MTN, but this currently appears to be an IPC related problem. We apologise to affected clients and assure them that we are making every effort to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Last night Mweb's latency was all over place, Tonight it's your turn... Gotta love Telkom :D

Haven't heard anything from AH concerning my ticket for the last 3 or 4 days now. Last thing I was told "we're escalating the information you've provided". Im seriously getting fed up now, I've spoken to 9 different people from AH, I've been asked to test on 8 different ADSL accounts even though I get the exact same results on all of them and I have definitely provided at least 50 different speedtests, pingtests, traceroutes, you name it. What more must I give? Telling me "we see some inconsistencies/issues we'll get back to you" isn't helping, I'm waiting for AH or Telkom to tell me what's up or what else I must do.

Simple solution:

Move your line back to telkom and take a lesson from this that no-one can "manage" your line better than yourself.

Then, deal with Telkom direct! If you want something done right, do it yourself!

In summary, it's not worth the few bob having your line bundled for times like this, nuf said!

The installation of the IPC will go ahead as planned.

Afrihost reports:

UPDATE 17 April 2014 The South network was provisionally upgraded to improve overall performance and internet experience for affected clients in the region. Further upgrades are currently pending. We’d like to thank clients in the region for the continued patience and understanding.

Axxess reports:

UPDATE 2 Due to unforeseen technical delays, we have once again been informed that there will be a delay with the upgrade. We have not been provided with a new date at this time, we will update this notice as soon as one is provided. We would like to thank you for your patience in this regard.

Which is it? And what does it mean to be "provisionally upgraded"?

That normally means they only got some of the capacity of the order and not all of it.

I'm amazed they only get notified of delays on the day of installation though.

Nothing has been done... the so-called provisional upgrade is just another TALL TALE from Afrihost.

I think it's time Afrihost makes a gesture of EPIC proportions to ALL uncapped clients for the long wait. I think 50% OFF for the last 3 months should cover it... anything less would be more of the same from them (here's to the "break-down" in the relationship!).

Time for AH to pay... so that they can feel a bit of the crap we have ALL gone through in the last 3 months ;)

Or you could leave this crap behind you and find a decent ISP?

Im on a 8MB line......dont download much during the day except weekends....monthly usage pushing 400Gb

A speed test this morning..

Of late the graph was spiking a lot, but this mornings test it was more stable. with the webafrica account I used before it was full speed on a flat line, hardly any spikes in the graph.

At this stage if Afrihost is not going to come through then I would consider Webafrica

We may even find, that behind the scenes, the upgrade was applied, but it didn't even make a dent.... this would prove what we have ALL been saying, "The double-data giveaways, and freebies, HAVE impacted network performance".

Now we will have have to wait another 6 months for Telkom to roll out new infrastructure to accommodate the NEW order of extra capacity that AH/Axxess/MTN have ordered :(

People love to bitch about everything, but at the end of the day it can't be that bad because they stick around. Like people always saying how **** windows is yet, 99% of them haven't switched to Linux or ios or whatever. Typical whiney people..... Just saying.

I reckon everyone has a right to an opinion. Depending on you point of view one might agree or disagree. Also one might need to be in the same boat to understand what it's about.

From my point of view I've been patiently waiting on AH to get the South network fixed. I'll give them time since for most part they have been hand down better than other ISPs. Then again other ISPs don't sit still and plan as well, which might be more competition than one thinks.

How long until we in the South see some provisional improvement?

Still rubbish my side... absolutely no improvement... dismal is an understatement.

Has this provisional upgrade gone live yet?

From other thread:

I mentioned on the business thread that we would continue shaping initially, just to slowly unshape - rather than the other way around.

Because we only received a provisional amount (i.e. not the full order we expected, though it's still a significant improvement percentage wise) we're going to very cautiously see where demand and capacity meet at the "sweet spot". It's also very difficult to determine because of the holiday, so we'll probably need to repeat this again next week as the work week begins on tuesday.

Depending on the demand we see, and how demand changes in response to the network, I expect that we will still need to shape to some degree for now (until we receive the rest of our capacity) but this should be much lighter and we should be unshaping a lot faster.

For now, we'll need to see how we can tweak the network for the best performance and experience.

Why haven't AXXESS mentioned any "provisional upgrade"?

I guess, the acid test is to see if AH are being truthful about this small upgrade, that business users should see better contention come tuesday at least.
