Afrihost Capped Account

I had slow windows updates running at 2mb speed on 20mb line last night on my unshaped capped account. Changed over to my backup ISP and got linespeed straight away.

Unshaped my ass! I won't be renewing.

Are you using a Shaped or Un-Shaped capped account from Afrihost?

Should it even matter? They boldly state that they do not shape "realtime services". I had issues using youtube on a capped account (on 100mbit fibre). It either wouldn't load 720p/1080p or when I selected 720p/1080p it wouldn't buffer. Had to reload the page multiple times to get it to "go". Haven't had that problem with any other ISP accounts that I have tested.

Regardless, I cancelled my backup account. I'll just wing it until a nice promotion comes along again.

I mostly stream and browse stuff which supposed not to be affected, blatant lying takes the cake, I cannot faking stream 720p atm :(

I'm also experiencing weird behaviour these past few days. Same times - at night - where everything EXCEPT Twitch.tv works fine. Like, Twitch uses 5% of my 10Mb line.

When my Crystal Web account was somehow used up last year and I used an Afrihost account for a month, it was precisely this daily slow down that made me absolutely sure I wasn't going to keep the cheaper Afrihost account and ditch Crystal Web. It's infuriating, and kicks in like clockwork at 6pm on weekdays. The only explanation I can think of is that Afrihost simply doesn't have enough network capacity for everyone during 'Netflix time', which I assume is the heaviest internet usage period every day.

That's correct. I've been automatically put on a shaped one but Netflix shouldn't be shaped
