Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

Afriman,
I have a 20mb ADSL line with you and a capped account.

My speeds the last few days are as follows:

2 July - 1,92/0,83
3 July - 1,89/0,24
6 July - 1.03/0,74
7 July - 1,98/0,73

The best I've gotten this month is (a quite respectable) 16,31 down. Local pings are always reasonable and the line is otherwise quite good in terms of SNR etc.

Will I be getting a 90% discount on my bundle for the times when I am getting less than 90% performance, i.e. almost always?

I am paying a lot of money for almost zero output.

I must just say...after years at Afrihost and thinking it's not so bad, I signed up to another ISP today. For the 1st time my line actually feels like a 10Mbps line! I youtube 1080p without any buffering, I can Twitch on "source" quality without buffering and it looks awesome!!! Playing Battlefield now for 2 hours and not once did the Latency and Packet Loss icon show, with Afrihost it was there ALWAYS, even when the game "felt" fine! What is also strange on Afrihost I had to wait a few seconds before youtube videos started to play, now it starts immediately. Searching for a Playstation Party also took like 10-15 seconds, now it tells me immediately if one of my friends have started a party. Quite A few things I just assumed took a while to load, doesn't anymore! This is true Internet heaven!!! Another plus side is my 100GB is cheaper than Afrihost! *hint*

Those results are awful :( Have you been able to run any troubleshooting with our team to see if the experience can be improved at all?

...just thinking out loud here...

I'm wondering exactly how many traceroutes it would take before AH techs "finally" figure out what's wrong on their network... ?

I am wondering the same thing... but this is how a big corporate wears down the "whining" customers, especially customers who know a bit more about the internet than they do.

An infinite amount, they are still trying to find out where the network is, only then can they fix it.

We know what the issue is and we're working on a fix, I think that's been communicated a lot.
It's always good to troubleshoot wherever possible though, it provides invaluable data to our team and points in a direction on where we can improve.

Signs of throttling now. Sub 1.5Mbps on a 2Meg line.

I've never seen such low speeds EVER!

I've never seen such low speeds EVER!

I've covered throttling/ shaping in another thread, linking below.
We are seeing increased demand, which is probably causing the slow down though.

I think we've discussed this many times here :(
There's no throttling/ shaping or any form of limitation on the Business accounts. Saying that however, the current network issues may create a slow experience for some clients.

So dear Reps & Gian...

My line is 10Mbit... getting sub 2Mbps speeds...
Can't access some sites I need to work on overseas...

What do you have to say for yourselves tonight? How much longer must I put up with this?
I don't really have much of an option here... WA was a lemon.

While the experience may not be up to par, sites should at least still load up.
Has this been a constant for you?

Last night was bad, tonight is a crying shame...
Cannot get into sites in NZ.. time-outs and others..

Line is throttled to 329kbps... cannot exceed that, no matter what.

Do you have a site that I can test?

Telkom have split their retail division off as an ISP and I understand that with the new system, we can transfer lines directly from ISP to ISP. However, because the new system requires that the line go into a "migration pool" between the releasing and receiving ISP, if the line is in that pool for over 48 hours the line is soft suspended (no DSL). The receiving ISP must claim the line, or it will remain in that migration pool. So essentially you must cancel with your current ISP, and then ensure that you have signed up with a new ISP and they are ready to claim the line from the migration pool. It's possible that there is no downtime if the process is followed correctly.

Ok, but in my case I am not moving to another ISP. I am canceling my line completely. Last time I did this, I had to wait first for AH to release the line. Only then could I cancel with Telkom. Since I had to give 30 days notice with Telkom, I ended up paying for a line for 6 weeks at a place that I was not even living in anymore.

Will I be able to cancel the line before I transfer it back to Telkom, or will Telkom now stick me with the bill for 30 days for the line?

My, my. my

So, the best internet experience we can expect from hereon until the POC savior is heralded is at least sites should still load up??

We can submit an order to Telkom for cancellation. I'm not actually sure if the line needs to be moved back, but I'm sure we can quicken the process for you if you'd like.

We're always doing the best where we can, but a long term, major change will be seen once we implement one of the two POCs.
