Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

The usual quality MTN IPC optimised network tanking... slower than dialup. Not bothered to speedtest or tracert or what not, just changed ISP and all good again.

/meh

Same here. Yesterday evening I tried streaming from Netflix and it buffered every 2 minutes, so I switched ISP and voila all is well. So I think that is it for me. After 5 years being an Africlient I am moving on. SHame really because I once liked them, but now I just can't stay because I my wife is moaning about the line as we are streaming our tv and it is unwatchable.

Good luck with your new project.

Sorry about the poor experience. Streaming would probably suffer if throughput is low, depending on the quality, so that makes sense.

But yeah, gotto keep the wife happy, totally understand on that one :(

I used afrihost for the first few days of this month but had to fall back to Telkom again on Sunday, been there ever since.
We are not likely to get out money back but it would be nice if the data we have not been able to use for the past few months be allowed to roll-over indefinitely on the new network, seeing as we are still paying to do your testing.

I don't know about a blanket rollover, but I can see what I can do on a case by case basis via PM.

Oh have we now changed tune....??? What about the 75GBytes I lost at the end of June due to not being able to use it?

Seems I can't stream twitch again. Was working perfectly the last 3-4 days and now I can't even stream at more than 0.7mbps.

Edit: Seems my download speed in general is averaging 0.7mbps.

Whats up with Afrihost? The past two months have been horrendeous - trying to download a 2GB file via newsgroup and its going at 90KB/s on a 10MB line.

It's probably a throughput problem, I know Twitch likes a lot of bandwidth :(

We've been talking pretty extensively about these issues. Maybe it's better focus on the solution. We should have our new network ready for testing in the next few days (if all goes well). We're well into this 2 weeks that Gian mentioned in his post, so we should be close to turning the network over to clients.

Again, only solution seems to be the new concept proof one... what about THIS one, here and NOW.

This has been ongoing since late Feb... and all that has been done is attempts to squeeze bandwidth artificially, with zero improvement to IPC issues really.

Same old same old.

As that may be, on a a non Afrihost ISP it works perfectly on the "High" setting. So the bandwidth usage on my 10Mbps line is the issue.

There was definitely improvement in improving traffic efficiency, it was just not quite enough to have the desired impact. I think this was a factor in us taking the leap to invest in a new network over just adding IPC. We realised that we need to be able to be more reactive and more flexible so that the experience we offer is in line with the value our clients expect.

There would be little benefit in adding upgrades to the current network, there is no way they would arrive before the POC networks are ready to test with clients. We'll probably move more client traffic to these new networks anyway, so there will be an immediate benefit on both fronts. I really think that is hands down the best solution given the circumstances.

I think I was saying that the throughput you're getting on our side is probably the issue. We've seen quite a few complaints of slow speeds, even though latency has improved.

I suspect this is indeed the case, and this is why, like loadshedding, the drama ends late at night.

No you need to be more proactive not reactive.

Just say it like it is... MTN gave you a fat toffee and now you need to get a new upstream provider.

Is it possible to cancel, and then cancel the cancellation at a later stage before the end of the month?
