Disabling QUIC does fix the issue though, have you tried it?
How do I disable QUIC on Youtube, Google+ and other Google apps running on my Android tablet / cellphone? Because I experience this exact behaviour on there too.

Can only try when I get home tonight, but honestly having to go and change settings on the 5 pcs in the house isn't a proper solution. Especially for all the non tech ppl that will have the same problem but just be complaining for slow internet.
Can you guys reproduce the slow QUIC on your guys side ? If so have you tried the exact same PC and another isp's account ?
For those of you having trouble with Google services and Chrome:
open a new tab and go to chrome://flags/
Find "Experimental QUIC protocol."
Set it to "Disabled" instead of "Default"
Boom, Google services working again. This was driving me nuts the past few days, and appears to be related to Google switching this protocol on for their services and having it enabled by default in Chrome. Not sure what the benefit is supposed to be, but clearly something's buggy with it right now and disabling it has no negative effects.
@Afriguy I still would like to know if in your extensive testing you switched to a competing ISP and had the issues go away. Could this be due to your upstream provider MTN ? As in the article that @whatwhat posted over 50% of googles server requests are over QUIC , I doubt the speed issue is due to the protocol itself but rather a network shaping / other issue.

Have a great day and please let me know if I can help with anything else!
Warm regards

I'm a network Admin an you stuffing around and not solving anny problem
This is the wores Support i received sorry no support
I don't think Android uses QUIC itself, it should be a Chrome specific switch.
Sounds like you're having issues with Google services itself though - what's the experience like?
Are services on your tablet/ phone/ PC slow, buggy or not working at all?

I'm seeing things like Youtube video's streaming nicely at 720p, and then dying halfway through, requiring an app restart. There after the video's play at low res (120p), if they play at all. I see content in my G+ stream not loading (e.g. the stream is there, but pictures and videos don't show). If I leave it, it does eventually show, but can sometimes take minutes to appear. I see Google searches returning a blank screen with a loading wheel - refreshing the page and it shows immediately. I see sites using Google ads sometimes not load because it is waiting for the adverts which aren't being served. I see Whatsapp messages being delivered late.
Classical behaviour when there is packet loss on a link, so it may just be that and not the protocol at all? I've not bothered troubleshooting much further yet - when it happens I just give up and go do something else as it is immensely frustrating to have to deal with more issues after a whole day of IT problems at work
This seems to happen during "peak" times - e.g. evenings after 6. It will work perfectly up to a point, and then there's a very obvious minute or 2 without any internet throughput. Sometimes my Mikrotik router times out the PPPoE session and re-dials, sometimes it fixes itself before that can happen. The ADSL link never dies though - just the throughput over PPPoE.
Directly after that happens, the above is the experience. It can continue for a short while, or sometimes for hours. The start times aren't fixed though - sometimes it breaks at 7, sometimes 7:30, sometimes earlier. Some days it is fine, others not.
During the day I've not seen this though - only later in the evenings. Seems to coincide roughly with the times for increased latency reported in the South?
The "death" event just happened for me now at 19:20. And now its back, but latency is through the roof:
Haven't yet noticed any loading issues though - just massive latency. Will keep an eye on it until load shedding hits me in 30 minutes.
So my tests (used google maps as its easy to test because of load time of a new area):
Axxess uncapped: With QUIC = Impossibly slow
Axxess uncapped: No QUIC = Fast
Afrihost capped: With QUIC = Slow
Afrihost capped: No QUIC = Fast
Incontact: With QUIC = Very Fast
Incontact: No QUIC = Fast
So from my view it is an issue with the Afrihost/Axxess network (Or MTN your upstream which is still something you guys need to sort out). Asking people to change flags etc is really not a solution.
Disabling QUIC is definitely not a permanent solution, with that I can agree with you. This is only meant as an interim solution until our Team has resolved this permanently on the network side.
