So only time for normal latencies is at 00:00? I played just now it was fine, then suddenly got 300ms on international and at the moment 75ms on Teamspeak.

Trace complete.

These latencies only occured at 8pm, now it does in afternoon as well?

Thanks for posting those results, it looks like we're making a few changes, you should see your latency start coming down in a moment.

OK guys, FWIW:

My 10 Mbps line, Afrihost 50 + 50 capped @ R199 PM:

And then a Telkomsa 20 Gb Softcap account, same line, same everything else:

4439095935.png

So effectively the only difference for me is the ping, and seeing as I'm not a gamer, this in effect makes little difference to me.

Not bragging, just flipping the coin to show there's another side.

I've pulled 1/2 a dozen torrents this month, during business hours, and they've come in at full line speed. All other downloads ditto.

So it's not everyone...

Thanks, really appreciate the different perspective.

However, I do want to point out that the latency you see should be much lower, and be much closer to the SAIX-based account.

This is exactly what the Team is working hard on to improve.

I've been lurking in this thread for weeks now, and I swear I can almost picture the bruising you Afriguys are getting... :)

Contention is caused when there isn't enough bandwidth available and Users need to basically compete for bandwidth. This generally results in latencies, but in this case the latency is occurring with there being enough bandwidth available.

WHY is there not enough bandwidth for users? Users that are paying for it.
Screw it, I've had enough of this.

Cancelling my account. This has been a farce. I'd be embarrassed if I ran my business this way.

Dont you?

Well please explain contention and the cause of that.

I never said that... There definitely is enough bandwidth. AntiGanda asked what contention is, and when it occurs.

There is no contention at the moment.

I've been blessed with the ability not to take anything personally. :)

I'm here to help where I can, and if it means I have to take some flak, that's part and parcel of why I'm here.

We are not angry at you, we are angry at your higher ups.
To the guy who doesn't care about latency, it will also affect any online streaming you do.

Having latency issues right now:

That is a local speedtest (as in within cape town). Tracert says the latency is introduced at the hop onto your network. I am on a 10Mbit line, no one else is using the line. Only this PC is connected to the router.
Platitudes are wearing thin. There are 7 days left to sort this out.

I'm confident that you will see improvement before then.

Averaging 18 KB/sec on an update ... hoo boy.
Speedtest (when the page eventually loaded) gives me 1,99 Mbps download.

Jesus, Afrihost can be glad we don't have to upload money for the service!

That is what you said after the move from IS to MTN, then again when the South ran out of bandwidth and you took months to get more IPC and yet again when the software upgrade went wrong and you had to fly in network consultants to help fix it, not to mention the iOS upgrade debacle.

Every time we get an improvement it is short lived before the next wave of problems which are followed by weeks or months of denial.

Not once has it ever actually improved to the standard you had in the IS days.

It has reached the point that if it works at all we are ecstatic, that is hardly classed as "Pure Internet Joy" more "Sort term Internet relief"

Don't keep promising improvements rather promise us a fix that is stable, tested and guaranteed to hold, no more band aids please.

That is our priority at the moment, and we are taking a long hard look at the options available to us to make this a reality.

+1000 Well said

Also had enough. Moved to WebAfrica last night. Afrihost reminds me of CellC, great data offers, but the network just isn't good enough. The network was great before the move to MTN.

Bye Bye Afrihost.

I've set a reminder on my phone to cancel when my data runs out or before the 24th. I'm out it's been great and over the years i've recommended Afrihost to dozens if not a hundred people. Guess how that back fired... I got a number of phone calls over the last couple months asking me why I would suggest an ISP like this... I can only assume you'll lose them as clients as well while I look like a poephol. Luckily i'm also blessed with your talent of not taking things personally. You on the other hand should take it seriously if not personal, its how you put bread on the table in case you forgot and your colleagues are making you look like a poephol.

I have had problems with torrent downloads on my capped account 4mb account lately as well. A 4GB file takes 48 hours to download

We're definitely passing on the general sentiment onto the Higher-ups, definitely something that they will need to consider in the coming days.

What sort of speeds are you getting on your torrents? How does that compare to the speedtests?
