Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

If being the canary in the coalmine resolves the problem I'm thrilled. I have to however ask - did none of this trigger a system alert?

So we've established it's widespread. Yet still the status board showed everything was running like a bomb?
That does not compute. Here we have a real widespread problem and the status board is green.
The perception created is that AH views the status board as a detractor rather than adding value.

I can honestly say that I agree with you, the Noticeboard is meant to be a tool to assist our Clients and save them time and effort, especially now that the Noticeboard has been integrated into the Afrihost App. As things stand at the moment, the MyBB - and this includes Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIN and Instagram - Team is the Team that updates the board with any changes, but we can only do so once we have the go-ahead from the Higher-ups, and we're pushing hard for the ongoing latency issues to be included. We're definitely taking every point that is raised here to heart.

The spike in latency should definitely been noticed by the Team, and we're following up with them as to why no additional steps were taken yesterday once the latency was noticed.

Too little too late...

I've jumped ship and hope the others that are also struggling do the same.

I switched to WA yesterday late afternoon and since then I've only gotten close to full speeds and really good latency.

This is NOT a Telkom problem...not in my area (Brackenfell) at least...as I've done endless tracerts/speedtests these last couple of weeks (on AH request) and every single time I had issues with my AH account, some (any) other account (WA, CW, Telkom etc etc) worked perfectly.

You (Afrihost) continue to announce everyday that our problems the previous day is "not cool"...that your team "are working on it"...that our problems "receive top priority"...

...and yet, you NEVER give any sort of time frame on when the problems would be resolved. If pretty much all the other ISP's we've mentioned are doing such a better job at maintaining their networks and managing their bandwidth, what the hell are you (Afrihost) doing? I understand it's really easy to absolutely stuff up your network and basically just don't give a **** as long as you have paying customers gullible enough to listen to AfriGenie/AfriMan everyday...but jeez it doesn't even look like you're trying to sort out any issues anymore.

With all your excuses these last couple of weeks, the inability to resolve our issues etc etc, I doubt I will ever look in your direction again when I'm considering a new ISP...and you can bet your sweet ass I will NOT be mentioning Afrihost when I'm talking to people who's looking for a good ISP. You can however count on me to share my *** experiences with AH as far as I go, hoping to cost you clients as far as I can. This is nothing personal...it's just that I truly believe you don't deserve anymore clients.

Good luck Afrihost...you're gonna need it!

Morning!

I hope you guys had a pleasant Youth Day!

I've been reading through the Capped Thread, and it definitely looks like latencies were nowhere close to being within a decent range. Our Team is investigating why the latencies were as high as they were, as it seems to have spiked around midday in all regions.

This is a top priority for us and we'll find out why this happened.

Yeah, why is it always being investigated/attended to afterwards??

The same story again, lack of IPC!

I don't think this is being caused by lack of IPC... But at this point the Team is looking into all possibilities.

:(

I'm definitely disappointed to see you go, I really do appreciate the time you've spent troubleshooting and helping us out, but if you weren't getting the performance from us that you needed, I certainly cannot fault you for moving to WebAfrica.

In the future - and this goes for everyone - if you want to try out things on our network again, drop me a PM and I'll get you a full Test Account to try out.

Pretty sure it is, since all tracerts posted on this forum point to the first hop being at fault.

Yup. Reminds me of OpenWeb and iBurst... DENY DENY DENY...
Willing to bet they took the international link down to install another optical fiber tapper for the NSA.

It was a crappy one, thanks to your company's lack of service. We went out to catch a movie at the cinema

Not sure why we would want to install a NSA listening device... But I'm guessing there is a hint of sarcasm there.

I'm really sorry about yesterday, we're taking a long hard look at the network at the moment, and we'll get to the bottom of this.

You mean the third hop right?

At this point we're looking into all possibilities, there is definitely a reason why things go to pot at specific times every day.

:P

Indeed!

To be honest, I prefer it when we are getting feedback from you guys, it's when the Threads get quiet that I start worrying...

... and we on the other hand rather prefer to be having the fairly frivolous generally off-topic conversations that take place in the CrystalWeb thread
:D

[puts on fire retardant suit]
Hehehehehe...

*Gasp!*

Well if that is where all the cool kids hangout...

Dont you?

Well please explain contention and the cause of that.

Contention is caused when there isn't enough bandwidth available and Users need to basically compete for bandwidth. This generally results in latencies, but in this case the latency is occurring with there being enough bandwidth available.

Define "enough", that falls into the same category as "Soon"

We are getting sick of arbitrary answers and platitudes it is well beyond the point that somebody senior makes a statement and posts realistic deadlines and an action plan to resolve this.

If that is not possible then as users we are wasting our time even reporting issues let alone waiting for them to be fixed.

Well your Axxess company has the exact same problem which they are attributing to contention. i.e. not enough bandwidth caused most likely by not spending enough.

"Enough" bandwidth is when no contention occurs at any point of the day. In theory with the bandwidth we have available, contention will not happen at any point.

Where was this information passed onto you? If I may ask?
