Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

Torrents are blocked/shaped into the ground... A torrent with 1603 seeders gives me... hold onto your chair... 16kbytes/sec, whereas a week ago, similar torrents ran close to line speed.

Can anyone suggest a CAPPED ADSL product with another ISP that doesn't throttle?

Did a speedtest now. 750KBps
Watched a youtube video. It stopped to buffer about 10 times the first two minutes... peaked at 400KB/s but averaged out at 200-250KB/s. This is really getting unacceptable.

I dislike getting home just to wish I was back at work because even our clogged work network is faster than this.

OK. Afrihost. When will we have normal latency again? I would really like to play some online games. This is the 3rd day now.

What also really bothers me is you don't even acknowledge on your website there is a issue. Everything is green, running like a bomb.
Is it really? Then why is my latency 250 ms plus? Up 200 ms from a week ago.

Something is up... Latency here normalised at 5pm. Which never happens before late at night. Even youtube is working.

BUT I just tried NNTP download - dead (1KB/s). So guess throttling of torrents and NNTP to try and keep 'real-time' services alive?

We're working really hard on normalising things, and getting them back up to level awesome.

That's odd :(
Are other downloads also slow?

Haven't been able to watch any stream I've opened on Twitch since Saturday. There have been countless "investigations", and I thought I'd give Afrihost the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it will be sorted out...

There has still been no change on the network status. We're apparently "running like a bomb". This must be true because bombs don't run at all... They blow up. It's actually quite funny, Twitch even reaches the point where it just stops trying to stream at all.

Thanks AfriGuy for your attempts at helping, but they didn't quite work. Unfortunately, Afrihost has lost a lot of credibility in my eyes. Too many false promises. I believe this is where I'll take my exit.

AfriGenie/Guy:

Humour us: what exactly – without sugarcoating it – is the (frequent) problem in the Cape area?

Of course if certain protocols are dead then I would say they are shaping/throttling/contention/whatever-you-want-to-call-it, then again, they will never admit it even tho it's so blatant (must be localised user issue).

I appreciate your presence on these forums but really, you sound like a bot.

What if other downloads aren't slow, just p2p and nntp, and http at half speed. What does that prove other than MTN network is battling big time?

I understand you have to tow a line, but there's only so much BS (as in, instead of saying "that's odd", call it like it is (but don't think you are allowed to)) us tech savvy folks can take.

Had to go find stuff to try and download, but:

HTTP Download: Linux Mint from IS mirror @ 300KB/sec. Same file from US mirror @ 150KB/sec.
Torrents: 450KB/sec peaks.

This on a 6Mbit line.

So working OK for "peak time". NNTP still dead. (Afrihost's own server connects, but no throughput. Other server I tried timed out without connection.)

Latencies slowly creeping up again though :(

It's all part of troubleshooting I'm afraid, all runs down into trend analysis that our team looks at.
I say that's odd because the tests I run at home yield OK results.

Not the best downloads speeds, but getting there.
Someone else mentioned NNTP not working over on the Business thread, I've tried Tweaknews and it's working OK for me. Have you tried a few NZBs?

My torrents are dead and browsing speeds are very slow.
Please don't give me another answer like - "In regards to the torrents that are not functional at the moment perhaps try downloading a different torrent with assured high peers and seeds to confirm if it is still not working....." regarding my ticket support-cause everything was o.k for downloading, not great like usual but o.k. and now DEAD.There is more than enough seeders ect.I`ve been experiencing deteriorated service for a few days now.I`m afraid shaping might be at work here, so much for capped internet

Guess, I'll have to spend money again tonight on another ISP just to play some games. sigh
I am contemplating the same... giving AH this week to sort the issue out, if not, then its bye bye

Look at this UTTER CRAP speed pattern with running torrents...

And now, for at least one minute, as if my magic, the problem disappears.
Willing to bet I will be told my ADSL router is not attuning to the network

EDIT, getting full line speed on torrents, just moments ago it was DEAD. Can someone please explain to me WHAT THE FARK IS GOING ON HERE...
