Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

Going forward we'll be as open and honest about our new network implementation as we possibly can be, and in future the information that we will be able freely available on our website for anyone will be a dramatic paradigm shift.

Do you mean you will have an actual Network Status Page that reflects the state of the network rather than the mood of the Marketing Manager?

I think it will be a long long time before we ever trust the Afrihost Status page again.

I must admit I am also tempted to switch whilst the VOX offer is on, especially as I got notice today that my FREE 1GB Mobile data has ended so the only account left now is ADSL which I have reduced to a lower package. I will stick around out of Technical Curiosity over the POC test period but it will be interesting to see if Afrihost offers a similar deal as the Vox one to the users that are loyal (or should that read gullible) and stay with them through this nightmare.

It is Bastille day today in France, maybe we should emulate the French tradition and storm Gallo Manor waving Cable Cutters rather than Guillotines :)

Yup! There is a big drive to make as much information as easily available at all times of the day. :)

I like the idea of a Bandwidth Revolution! Luckily though we don't need to actually storm the Bastille since we have the full co-operation and assistance of those in the Bastille! ;)

our current IPC capacity alone costs millions in Rands each month, never mind implementing our PoCs which each require separate IPC capacities and network infrastructures. Not to mention the investment in man hours to get each of the PoCs operational and continue maintaining our current network.

So what... its the same if you're a factory churning out products... if you run out of raw material, what do you do?
No you see sir, the problem is this... there is a problem with your current network and you cannot upgrade it, its reached the maximum point. Just admit it and be done with it, finished and klaar.

Has your salary bill changed as a result? I don't think so

There is no such thing as a network that cannot be upgraded, but at this stage, it makes more sense for a us to look at alternative options, and for Afrihost to continue growing we decided to opt for either of the PoC options.

For the time I've signed up for the 100GB Vox special. Will downgrade my existing AH account soon. Might keep it around as a backup account. Sites that use to take a long time to load or just plain time-out are now working again. And the VOX data carries over which is sweet.

Just sort of skimmed over the last 20 posts and I see the its more of the same. Users complaining and AH making promises and asking for trace-route and nothing really being resolved. So tired of providing those trace routes and ping logs...

I want to be categorically clear here, at no point have we - or will we - move any of our client base to a different ISP.

In terms of the evidence of the network upgrades, our current IPC capacity alone costs millions in Rands each month, never mind implementing our PoCs which each require separate IPC capacities and network infrastructures. I understand that you guys are frustrated, but to continuously make assertions that aren't true - or even based in fact - is not helping anyone. Going forward we'll be as open and honest about our new network implementation as we possibly can be, and in future the information that we will be able freely available on our website for anyone will be a dramatic paradigm shift.

To be honest, it feels as if Afrihost are not doing anything.
All patience has run out, everything has reached boiling point.
The lack of details and plans are concerning, as it makes us feel like we are just being left out in the cold here.
Afrihost is not giving us much hope here, the attitude is amazing, basically telling us to suck it up and wait.
Wait for what? A network you can't tell us paying customers about?
Sometimes playing your cards close to your chest is not a good idea, it can do more harm then good.
Ok so Afrihost do not want us to be bias, but what happens when we do a trace route? We will figure things out then.

So over this whole debacle, Afrihost are not very good at handing a crisis which is very clear and concerning!

That assumption may be proved wrong a little later :)
As much as we'd want to update everyone on a very detailed level, we simply can't. But a lot or work is being done behind the scenes, and I think time will prove the amount of work that we're putting in now.

These are just words though, let's rather base things off the actions that we do.

When exactly is later? Tomorrow is Wednesday already...

I do need to point out that we have a bit more leeway in terms of the steps that we can take to assist and resolve client queries, and if we provide credit or assist with cancelling an account with immediate affect this shouldn't be taken as standard policy. Our Support Team will help in any way that they can, but they have their own guidelines that they need to follow. I don't think we'll ever force anyone to use a product that they are not content with, but in general I don't think our cancellation period - anytime before the 25th of the current month - is too long.
Actually you need to comply with the CPA, which means you sell something that works and provide a cancellation if it does not, and is likely not to work for some time. I suggest you check carefully where you stand before grandstanding on this point.

Been hearing the same story for over a year. When is an ex-employee from any of the SA ISPs going to just tell us all the real stories. We consumers, paying for a level of service that we don't get.

Specifically around cancellation, we have a cancellation policy in place which AfriGenie mentions here.
We can and will accommodate our clients wherever possible though.

I think we're taking a step in the right direction :) Definitely some exciting times ahead!

Risky at best.. most employment contracts in this business carry non-disclosure clauses, for indefinite periods of times. Most people are sh*t scared of that.
