I am ephemeral, and you must experience pain before you can embrace the true rage, before I burn up for flying too close to the sun.

Aaaah... you are obviously from Afrihost Critical Care... ignore the phone why don't you... and, gee... your recycle bin on your desktop is full of our tracerts... inbox, ignore, recycle bin.

I would like to see what everyone is complaining about in terms of slow speeds but my 1GB free account is not even authenticating.... Maybe they disabled them

Amusingly there is an Afrihost banner advert above this thread.

And there my uploadspeed overtook my downloadspeed. 10 meg line. The awesomeness is overwhelming.

Lol i love how ppl are brutal when things go pear-shaped and how quick they are to threaten to leave... I have been with afrihost for 5 years and even though the speeds are KAAAAAK atm, i know they doin something about it. Im sorry but some ppl here are ignorant and assume this will never happen at ISP X.

Are they gonna tell us exactly what went wrong? doubt it, there is no need. For all we know some techie did something and all the lights in the area dimmed and suddenly ppl could smell burning ;-)

Suck it up and relax, **** will get sorted they always do.

Excuse me while i go dust off a book... *dies of dust inhalation*

Speed down the drain still. Even worst than earlier today.

Getting almost 7 times slower speed than normal.

It's happened many time over the years and the fixes are often day to weeks to months. Not acceptable.

I'm only sticking it out as uncapped is generally worse than (large) capped. But only for a few days.

When i think over the years there has been a handful of issues that were directly afrihost issues, the rest were things like telkom, pairing issues and good ol'seacom.

The problem is that a lot of this is affecting businesses which rely on their internet connectivity to do business. If they can't do business, they can't earn money. But hey it's okay right, because come end of the month Afrihost will still debit their account for a service they didn't provide.

Yup, same here - getting just over 1mbps @ speedtest.net on my 8mbit line :/

Afriman, when can we be expecting increased capacity upgrades? Do I need to find myself another ISP for the next few months?

And yeah, Bedford, I'm pretty confident they'll sort it, and they are IMO one of, if not the best ISP out there. But the reality is that I run a business from home and if I need to switch ISPs for a few months whilst they sort out the issues, it's no biggie ...I just need honest feedback so I can make a decision.

You realise that attitudes like these are what allows everything to fall apart. Certain individuals have repeatedly faced issues when using Afrihost and no other ISPs. Afrihost has been erratic for two days now, with no response other than heavy load, they provide a meaningless explanantion to a group of mostly technically minded people yet pride themselves on transparency.

How difficult would it be to say "We have excessive load on a Tier-2 router in Johannesburg because of inadequate peering allocation and are working to provision more bandwidth". Provide direct technical answers and what action is being taken short-term, medium-term and long-term.

Admittedly they must deal with thousands of complaints a day, but do they not have a proper ERM system to log historical grievances? Everytime someone faces a repeat issue they need to repeat a batch of tests ad-nauseum along an unending hellish chain of being kicked from department to department.

Despite all this I still believe Afrihost is one of the better ISPs in South Africa, but such little effort would go such a long way to resolving problems, they've made a lot of promises, they should live up to them.

I have the strangest boner right now... but I like it xD

^^ For all non Afrihost clients, HD available... for Afrihost clients 240p, pay attention to the lyric... pertinent perhaps...

Maybe MTN and Afrihost should invest some cash back into their network to be able to handle IOS updates. So tired of issues each and every month.
