So clearly there are still IPC issues in the South leading to the severe slowdowns in the evenings, and the IOS8 updates are only further exasperating the issue. The question is if a rectification of the root cause is happening (an upgrade of capacity) or not, as I haven't heard it mentioned. I'm sure your network guys are good at their jobs, but solving a dire lack of capacity through shaping controls seems a little optimistic. I'd love to be proved wrong though.

On a completely unrelated note - AfriGuy - is there a preferred SA Ubuntu repository mirror for use with AH? I've tried the saix mirror and a couple of others, but downloads always seem to run between 400-600k/sec, which isn't terrible, but kind of defeats the purpose of a 20mbps line.

Sorry about this, I know it sucks :(
I promise, things will be sorted out really soon!

For the mirror, I use sun.ac.za and always see line speed.

I have reported this issue to AfriGuy this morning after I Spoke with TelkomZA.

You are from Cape Town, but look your routing shows via Johannesburg.
After the upgrades Telkom did on there network on the 11th MTN need to update there IP routing tables.
Some Cape Town based exchanges has been connected to new ESR's and the routing tables needs to be updated to link the ESR's to the correct IPC's, or something like that.

AfriGuy said he will pass the info on to there Network team.

This is the info from Telkom.

Can at least shed some light *****************************, the fault is between their access provider MTN and SAIX/IPNet.

Now for the details - DSlam was cutover to a new ESR on Friday, the new ESR (BNG - Alcatell) does not respond to the ICMP request so the hop will just show stars It is however not a problem)

Now what Afrihost is suppose to do is ask MTN why is my CPT client routing to your JHB IPC instead ********************

New BNG address - wblv-ip-bng-2 , Afrihost/MTN should log a ticket to IPNet, the IPC provider to rectify the routing

Suspect the sluggish response could be due to the increased route towards the Jhb IPC and maybe even causing the link to congest.

Let me know if I can be of more assistance.

Hi Guys, I never post anything just read posts, but for this I make an exception Afrihost Capped account is just dismal. Kenilworth, Cape Town. Glad to hear it's not just me. As I spent 45 minutes on the phone with "Support" last night telling me to do this and that. And how it's just me having this problem.

Finally the support guy wanted to downgrade my line speed! to fix the problem. This after telling them my speed is fine on my Webafrica Capped account 9Meg down on a 10Meg line. Really bad call. I shudder to think of my clients calling in if I'm busy.

After reading these posts tonight and again getting 1Meg speed (10Meg Line) at this point I downgraded my account to a 1GB free account.

I think the point everyone has, Afriman, is if there is a problem be honest say what the problem is, trying to sweep it under the carpet when we call in and you have us on the line one on one is unacceptable. You have not given a clear solution in any response.

The guys who post on this forum help guide our decisions and through us our clients so improve, the saying goes the bigger they are...

You are quite fortunate! My download speed equals my upload speed and is below 1 meg and this on a 20mbit line! Afrihost is sloooooooow and this on a guaranteed capped account! Something is seriously wrong and this was before the IOS update!

Afrihost no offence but using IOS update as your excuse is a weak one.

these problems occured even before this update was released.

just be transparent and tell us really whats going on.

No general issues have been seen prior to yesterday evening.
If you saw slow speeds before then we'll need to have our team investigate this further.

I've had this issue since two days ago. and yesterday it degraded so much that both my accounts were unusable.

Both my uncapped account and my capped account that are both Afrihost accounts.

Dont get me wrong Afriguy Im very happy with Afrihost but I mean it cant be just related to a software update.

then all the networks would be affected by this.
