This is a phucken circus! Honestly. I am not a fan of Apple, but really, putting the blame on their updates is ridiculous. And you do this publicly with your notice, shame yourselves Afrihost. What type of an ISP goes down in a country when someone releases a smartphone update?? How many iPhones got the update in the country, 650 million phones at once?? Stop talking kark and blaming someone else. If this is the way forward for Afrihost, I am not sure how they will survive when the next round of windows service packs or playstation/xbox updates get released. Utter bullschyte. Blaming someone else when your own network can not provide a service that clients are paying for. You can just as well run a restaurant and have people pay beforehand, and then say sorry, all the livestock got bough at the farms, you have nothing to serve. It's not your fault.

I don't think we're wanting to push the blame or point fingers anywhere, but iOS 8 definitely has an influence over both our and global traffic patterns.
Slow speeds are being addressed with our team.

So why is it other ISP's aren't affected in the same way? People were switching to alternative ISP's and getting full speed? I for one don't have a backup account, and don't see why I should be paying for internet access from two different ISP's.

I'm really not sure, I can't comment on other networks sorry.

I agree with Afrihost that the update is definitely causing increased traffic. I however agree with you that this shouldn't be their public excuse. The excuse is simple, they do not have enough capacity to meet current demand, simple as that.

You can clearly see which ISPs are over utilizing their network, Afrihost is one and Vox is also currently struggling (in Cape Town at least). I don't see any issues with Webafrica, the seem to be coping just fine.

There's a very high demand running through CINX at the moment too - same in the North, just not as big it seems.

Other ISP's were not affected because their networks worked, they just worked. But that's just my opinion.

I can fully understand that, we're running through a lot of options to normalise services affecting some clients.

I can't authorise this, services are still running as per normal. There is no downtime.

I'm not worried about a refund, but for you to say services are running as per normal is way off. If services were running as per normal you wouldn't have us here complaining.

Services are running normally for most clients, some clients are seeing slow speeds.
This is what our team is working on getting normalised :)

So you shaped uncapped to death, but still don't have enough capacity for the capped users. Nice.

Shaping levels are normal, we're seeing very high demand though which is causing slow speeds for some clients.

You can still make the move over :)
The slow speeds is only affecting some clients - all of which should be resolved really soon.

i also seem t be having this issue....10meg line running at around 3.4mbps which is pretty disappointing. I am generally satisfied with the service otherwise.

hope it gets resolved soon....Webafrica is beckoning.

I'm really sorry about the slow speeds here :( We're working really hard on easing things up and normalising services for affected clients.

LOL, promises promises, we have come to expect nothing less. I don't think the amount of "some clients" are as low as you make it sound. I personally have had enough of people complaining about Netflix and Youtube speeds at my home in the evenings when I am paying almost 1k for the most unreliable capped connection in the world. You pay a lot of money for a service you don't receive. I can honestly say since 2008 that I have had ADSL, from then on each time that I had Telkom as an ISP at some stage, I never had these types of issues, when they did happen it was once a year, with AH it's a daily occurrence. My FNBConnect and WebAfrica accounts worked fine the last few weeks. This is so frustrating.

Just a tip AH, demand/usage will always be high, it's called the internet. It's the future and there are more and more devices being connected every day using more and more bandwidth. We do not use 56k modems anymore, you are not going to see a reduction in demand/usage anytime soon before the end of the world.

But well done AfriGuy in taking the heat from everyone, at least you are responding.

We're always looking at how we can improve, and I think we'll think even harder going forward after what's been seen today. We always come out stronger, and we're always making improvements/ upgrades on our network whenever it's possible :)

Hi All,

Service still not back to 100%, only getting 10Mbps of the 20Mbps. Looking at the green data flow graph one can see it's fluctuating all the time. Also the Speedtest seems to start off ok, but then very quickly it goes down to a 10Mbps level.

I'm unbundling and moving elsewhere if my net isn't working when I get home tonight. No more excuses. The "South ADSL Network Demand" notice has been up since 17:14, 03 Sep 2014. That's simply unacceptable.

Vote with your wallet guys.
