Seems to have been resolved for now.

However its going to be bad if this kind of throttling is being applied after hours. especially on a capped product.

Yeah I am a pretty patient guy. I was on home uncapped and then we had the south IPC issue so decided to go to business uncapped and then things got slow. Then moved to capped and now this over the last couple weeks we have issues again.

I'm sorry but when I get home I want to browse some interwebs, play some games/stream some youtube and I cant. Paying Afrihost over R1000 pm and this is not cool.

I know that they are working on some sort of bandwidth management thingy but this should be sorted by now and capped users shouldn't suffer.

If this isn't resolved soon then unfortunately I will be forced to leave AH which I don't want to do.

AfriMan, Have tried to communicate with help desk but with no joy perhaps you can help, my port was recreated by client services and from that point on I have not had any e mail flow out or in. All setting is the same as it was and usually received plus minus 40 odd per day, I am since the port recreate down to 0 nada for the last week. Not even the mails I send to myself from gmail is received. Help? desk now say I must send my username and password to them!! WTF Please help because without mail I might as well change to another ISP because AH will be useless to me then. Question, can this be sorted out or not??

I'm really sorry about this. I'm trying to understand if you still have general connectivity and it's just mails that won't work at the moment. If that's the case it's pretty strange.

We'll need to investigate this, becuase if no settings have changed, I can only imagine it may relate to possible DNS changes or something like that.

Sorry for the general reply, I'm just not gonna be able to address every comment individually.

As I've posted on the Business thread, we're definitely aware of the throughput issues clients are experiencing since iOS8 landed, and we're making some changes on the fly to the network management to give the best overall experience to clients while the Apple frenzy is on over the next while. We're also expecting additional traffic for Apps and patches etc.

Aside from the general changes I've mentioned over the last week or so, we'll be making some additional emergency improvements over the next few hours to try to provide best throughout and consistent, stable service while people continue to download iOS8 (and the U2 album they didn't agree to).

I'm pretty sure we'll see some improvement very soon.

AfriMan, can you arrange a refund for this month?

With all due respect, and unless i'm reading this incorrectly, you seem to be saying that the network performance is related to iOS8 and the U2 Album? The issues have been going on since before the iOS launch, and if it is indeed the case, then all the ISP's would be suffering from the same issues and not just AH. And from my experience and from other posts here that does not seem to be the case.

Using a capped account means that our contention ratios and general overall performance should be far superior than that of an uncapped product, which is why we choose to use the capped product. You guys either need to come clean and give us a proper explanation as to what the issue is, we've all been hearing that its software and this and that, that are being updated, which to be honest is just vague an elusive. Not trying to be difficult, but we are paying good money for something and I think we are not being unreasonable in our requests for decent feedback .

Uncapped ADSL business in SA is dead.

I don't believe that is necessarily the case, though it does seem like ISPs in general are less focussed on Uncapped as they were 2-3 years ago. I think a big factor is that people have multiple sources of connectivity - phone, iPad, PC, Console. It's less about having unlimited data and more about having data everywhere.

My opinion anyway :)

I appreciate the patience you've shown and I do believe we will resolve this pretty soon. The iOS8 release kind threw a spanner in the works for us, because we had already planned network changes, we didn't expect to have this event skew the work we had already planned. The emergency changes we made should stabilise performance for now, and hopefully the long term changes planned will also go a long way to providing the consistent experience we expect.

I have been monitoring this thread for weeks now, I also experience the same issues on my 20mb VDSL with capped data from Afrihost. Switch to another ISP and you get full speed, switch back to your AH account and you are dropped down to 4MBs and need to spend hours on the phone trying to find someone competent to explain the problem to, the line and modem is not at fault. I have been patient enough, everything has really gone downhill in the last couple of months. Especially since the fiasco where they ****ed me over with the bundle options.

Yesterday I cancelled my VDSL line and requested a transfer back to Telkom, I will never let another ISP manage my line, the saving is not worth the hassles, I also cancelled my capped products, domains and mobile data from AH yesterday. I am sorry to say it has come to this. You can only expect your clients to be loyal for so long. It does not matter how friendly and speedy AfriMan is, one man a company does not make, Afrihost as a whole is the problem.

To follow in the words of kripstoe, Captains log, stardate 68178.8. Final post on AH capped thread. Hope AH sorts out issues for you guys.

Hi Guys. Any of you playing WOW on an AH capped account? I bought 10GB to test the AH capped offering but latency has been fairly crappy with a lot of lag spikes. Any one else having this?

Afrihost capped has always been smooth to me (Touch wood). From day 1 there's been only full line speeds.

Getting tired of AH. 10MB Business uncapped was unable to view Twitch TV in 720p. (No apparent shaping).

Switched to Capped 400GB. Now my speed-tests report 3.3mbp/s even though my modem is syncing at 10mbp/s. International latencies are horrible.

It seems that every month there's something else wrong with the network.

Plugg Account getting 8.4mbp/s at the moment.

I've been experiencing problems for around 20hours now. Was on the phone to AF for long last night and nothing was resolved. Also on the phone to them now and still nothing... Surely capped accounts get preference last time I checked?
Here are my speeds for a 10Mb line (Capped), probably the highest download speed i've had for the past day!

I get as low as 165ms to WoW EU from PE..Unless there is a problem with the network, I never have a problem with latency. Even with these throughput issues it's very stable. Having said that - last night during the congested times I was only getting 1Mbit throughput so any additional traffic on the line caused the latency to rise because line speed was effectively being maxed out.
