Terrible connection today. I can't even open Facebook or MyBroadband. I have switched over to my spare WebAfrica account.

I think I'm going to make my WebAfrica my main one and boost the capped package.
Then I will reduce the Afrihost one to just a spare account, for just in case.

Trying to watch a live stream at the moment and it's just plain ridiculous. I mean really. You watch 10 seconds, then it pauses for 15 seconds, and then it carries on...Rinse, repeat. It's becoming annoying to say the least!

Hi guys

I know a lot of you aren't happy about what's happening here. I'll do my best to keep you guys posted on any feedback as it comes up. For now, please review our latest network notice.

We are reporting increased DSL demand throughout the country, possibly as a result of new Apple iOS updates released late last night. We will be optimising our network and making changes where applicable to provide the best possible internet experience to clients while traffic demand remains high. We apologise to affected clients and would like to assure them that we will continue to monitor and work towards improving their overall experience.

We're doing our best to normalise services across the board, doesn't look like everyone is being affected by this.

AfriGuy, can you arrange a refund for this month?

Using a capped account means that our contention ratios and general overall performance should be far superior than that of an uncapped product, which is why we choose to use the capped product.

Likewise. I'm just not sure whether to go with Vox or WebAfrica. I have no patience for this "Dad! Netflix keeps stopping!" and "Babe, wtf is wrong with YouTube!" crap anymore. Meh...

Is it just me or do those 2 graphs basically show similar load/usage. So why does the south always get blamed for excessive bandwidth usage in the evenings causing us to get shaped more than the north?

Sorry if I got this all wrong :erm:

This is a phucken circus! Honestly. I am not a fan of Apple, but really, putting the blame on their updates is ridiculous. And you do this publicly with your notice, shame yourselves Afrihost. What type of an ISP goes down in a country when someone releases a smartphone update?? How many iPhones got the update in the country, 650 million phones at once?? Stop talking kark and blaming someone else. If this is the way forward for Afrihost, I am not sure how they will survive when the next round of windows service packs or playstation/xbox updates get released. Utter bullschyte. Blaming someone else when your own network can not provide a service that clients are paying for. You can just as well run a restaurant and have people pay beforehand, and then say sorry, all the livestock got bough at the farms, you have nothing to serve. It's not your fault.

So why is it other ISP's aren't affected in the same way? People were switching to alternative ISP's and getting full speed? I for one don't have a backup account, and don't see why I should be paying for internet access from two different ISP's.

I agree with Afrihost that the update is definitely causing increased traffic. I however agree with you that this shouldn't be their public excuse. The excuse is simple, they do not have enough capacity to meet current demand, simple as that.

You can clearly see which ISPs are over utilizing their network, Afrihost is one and Vox is also currently struggling (in Cape Town at least). I don't see any issues with Webafrica, the seem to be coping just fine.
