Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Is this not because of all the uncapped users switching to capped? I'm sure a lot of uncapped users who were using about ~200GB pm realised they could get the same amount of data on capped with the double deal for much the same price (and without all the shaping drama) so like me they bailed out of uncapped, and now exactly the same evening congestion pattern is happening in the south as happened on uncapped.

There is a measure of people hopping, but that's not really above the normal package changes we see from month to month. We still have many clients moving from Capped to Uncapped, so it's not really something we're concerned about.

I have already send a PM to Afriguy yesterday but no response.

On the 11th there was a adsl Exchange failure Brackenfell Cape Town and I was only able to use my Afrihost account since late on the 12th again, did not wanted to authenticate on the network.

Since then, when I do a tracert the first hop that is the Exchange or ESR is now blank and resolve to no IP or DNS (almost like something is being hidden)
Then on-wards whey am I routing via Johannesburg IPC and DCA and not the one in Tygervalley Cape Town?

This already started an hour ago when I got home. So it is more like 4pm to 11pm.

Capped should be the right package based on the needs you have described, but this will happen when we can effectively manage demand and ensure that we don't have contention to the point that throughput on Capped is affected. For the most part this is happening except for that short period between 7pm and 10pm. The changes implemented should take effect shortly and then we'll know if that has had a meaningful impact on the overall experience (and I am also hoping this will not be further affected by iOS8 downloads and any changes in internet behaviour we've seen in the past).

Our technical director and senior management are all watching closely and have looked at various options going forward, so we'll start cycling through those options as we see how the changes we make affect overall performance and experience.

I am aware that the network guys are looking into this and that 7pm to 10pm might be a short period (time wise), but it's at least 75% of the time when the selfish me is home and need to *actively* use the account. Large downloads can happen during the day and when I'm sleeping. I have rarely seen people complaining that Youtube is slow because they're also torrenting. I have already compromised by letting go of AH uncapped account when that didn't fit the AH expectation of how I use my account and how I want to use my account. If capped is also now going to problematic from time to time, for "short" periods, then obviously I need to start looking at a product that fits my usage pattern better. We can take this conversation offline if you want, but I'd rather be informed sooner than later to possibly look for alternatives.

Downscaling my 200GB capped to a 1GB or such account... will try Afrihost again when they manage to sort out this rubbish.

I am done waiting in hope for it to improve.

Make it with wifi access for an extra R10 and you get 4GB for R39 (AH would probably make more profit too :wtf

7:45 pm in Cape Town and 10mbps line is running at 25% of capacity again on a capped account.

On a brighter note, although not for AH, Vox is flying - liking their capped pay as you go with uncapped after hours/weekends bolt-on option for only R59pm...

AfriMan, Have tried to communicate with help desk but with no joy perhaps you can help, my port was recreated by client services and from that point on I have not had any e mail flow out or in. All setting is the same as it was and usually received plus minus 40 odd per day, I am since the port recreate down to 0 nada for the last week. Not even the mails I send to myself from gmail is received. Help? desk now say I must send my username and password to them!! WTF Please help because without mail I might as well change to another ISP because AH will be useless to me then. Question, can this be sorted out or not??

Account is basically unusable. I think this is worse than just "we are seeing throughput problems between 7-10pm". More like " your CAPPED account will not work from 7-10pm".

my torrent download speeds are absolute crap and it has been this way for quiet some time.... i am on a capped account so this should not be happening, i dont download alot so this is unacceptable!!!

rather move to crystal web... tried their account out and its brilliantly!!!
