Your stats seems mostly fine. I think if we can see the latency and throughput you're getting on international, this may show us more specific info on this :(

Both international and local aren't great. I'm on a 4Mbit line. Streaming on Twitch has gotten progressively worse since I got home today up (round about 6.20 PM) up until about 9PM. YouTube service has also degraded. The videos eventually auto-select the quality at 360p (starting at 720p and going down until it doesn't buffer any more).

This has become an absolute ****ing nightmare. No doubt that in the morning Afrihost will spew their usual BS about how they are improving their network etc.

WoW this is odd, I just signed up for 20GBS of Capped data and the performance is poor.

Afrihost Capped

Afrihost Uncapped

PCFLIVE CAPPED

What's quite odd is the uncapped account has no issue.

Also max 2mb/s on capped - 10mbps line. Just tested with another ISP and getting ~9mbps.

Switched from uncapped because it was less than useless, and for a while capped has been good. But this is now equally useless.

And still the Afrihost network status says "Our DSL broadband network is running like a bomb!". Since their network health monitoring seems to be entirely based on user reports and begging MTN for information, I guess not enough people have complained yet.

Pointless complaining anyway... there is never anything wrong and you will then generate tracerts ad infinitum... then be ignored.

Endure it for as long as one can... then move on.

Or maybe wait until AH admit there was a problem in a mybb staff writer article... then endure it for as long as one can... and then move on.

I'm probably just lucky, but I'm streaming at 1080p effortlessly on my 10mb capped account.

It looks like it's only people from the south complaining - I'm in Cape Town, so are a few others. It's always the southern areas that seem flaky with AH. Probably just yet another "problems with our IPC, talking to MTN" issue.

I'm from northern suburbs and same issue

Morning Guys

I'm just going to post a general reply here, because I think pretty much all the posts we haven't replied to relate to poor throughput in the evenings.

We have listed this on our Network Status, that the South network is seeing increased demand between 7pm and 10pm, and during that period we're seeing diminished throughput due to contention on the network. We're running updates and software changes on the network management system to improve the efficiency of the traffic management (including shaping on Uncapped accounts) to minimise contention and improve overall experience. The changes unfortunately take several days to implement and take effect. I believe we may only start seeing improvement in the next couple of days. If we don't see a significant improvement, then we will look at other alternatives.

Thanks, understood.

But it also has been a couple of days already. The selfish person in me is annoyed because I need to have decent access after I get home in the evenings, to do some work and for entertainment. That's why I dropped uncapped and went for capped. Performance is at present more important than hundreds of gigabytes. We have discussed this a couple of times. If capped cannot deliver performance, which of the AH packages can?

Capped should be the right package based on the needs you have described, but this will happen when we can effectively manage demand and ensure that we don't have contention to the point that throughput on Capped is affected. For the most part this is happening except for that short period between 7pm and 10pm. The changes implemented should take effect shortly and then we'll know if that has had a meaningful impact on the overall experience (and I am also hoping this will not be further affected by iOS8 downloads and any changes in internet behaviour we've seen in the past).

Our technical director and senior management are all watching closely and have looked at various options going forward, so we'll start cycling through those options as we see how the changes we make affect overall performance and experience.

I've got a serious problem with this in the evenings and weekends (in Pretoria).

I would put it down to normal congestion, but my latency isn't affected. I think I have mentioned it before.

Congestion will usually manifest in latency and throughput, but it really depends on what is actually happening. Maybe we should do some specific troubleshooting so we can see what is actually happening and when. Let's not draw conclusions just yet, but as far as I know we're not seeing contention in the North in the evenings (or pretty much at all)

Is this not because of all the uncapped users switching to capped? I'm sure a lot of uncapped users who were using about ~200GB pm realised they could get the same amount of data on capped with the double deal for much the same price (and without all the shaping drama) so like me they bailed out of uncapped, and now exactly the same evening congestion pattern is happening in the south as happened on uncapped.
