Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

For the past few days speedtest.net seems to think that I am in Gauteng (I am actually in Cape Town) and thinks the closest server with best ping is up there too (this is also happening on Axxess at work)... I am also only getting about 50% of my line speed. Even though my modem/router says that I am syncing at full speed :-/ I have forced it to use the MTN test server in CT but still very low download speed!

Anybody know if something is going on with Afrihost network? I haven't looked into it too much. Just rather annoying not getting my full speed on a low tier capped account!

Similar thing is happening to me except it's Durban and I'm on Web Africa.

Saturday evening thought i"ll check on my torrent, which is running for nearly 2 days now (on a 4meg line) (torrent only 4 gig big) but see the eta is in about a week?? Needless to say will start ASAP checking other ISP's and their offerings. Any suggestions?:confused:

Can barely stream youtube 480P on my 20mb VDSL line capped AH account.

Been like this for days now but really starting to bug me. Something up in the south again?

Afriman says they're tweaking/optimizing things. *troll mode on*I think he's lying*troll mode off* :-P But seriously, it's quite annoying.

Coincidentally the Uncapped thread is also plagued with International latency issues this weekend!

Afriman. Still no updates on the VDSL line price cuts?

Also wouldn't mind something along the lines of that Axxess DNS services as well

You guys bought Axxess though so what gives? Please don't force me to move over to them :(

I don't have anything to give you guys right now, but we're obviously aware of what our competitors are offering. As far as I know we're waiting for official notice from Telkom on wholesale pricing to us so we can figure out the savings we can pass on to clients.

Sounds like it could be the IP address being assigned by Telkom. I doubt we would get that wrong on our side from our own IP ranges.

You can drop me a PM and I can confirm if you are being correctly routed (just also add a tracroute so I can check as well) :(

We are seeing some diminished throughput at specific times in the South, but it's pretty intermittent. We busy updating our management software so that we can try to bring the increased demand we're seeing back within acceptable range.

You cut me deep, kripstoe :(

We are definitely updating our software on our network management/shaper systems. We're quire optimistic that this will make a significant impact.

I had some problems testing this weekend because my lines been down, but didn't really pick up much when the line was working. We'll definitely do more testing to see what could be happening :(

AfriMan I need some help.
I installed win 8.1 yesterday and have been having some issues.
Streaming video from YT/Twitch has been really bad and my ping to the Cpt Mtn speedtest server is at 170ms.

Also why does the speedtest think I'm in lesotho?

Oh no, that latency is far too high for local :(
Do you have a traceroute that I can have a look at?

Hey Afriman,do you have any info regarding Telkom upgrading speeds?

I am temped to move back to Afrihost, are there still issues with streaming ?I need a decent streaming experience on a certain red and green streaming service.

thanx

I haven't heard anything confirmed around blanket upgrades, no idea when that'll happen again.
We don't have any general issues with streaming :)

That's hilarious!! This thread is full of complaints related to streaming and astroboi89 knows this otherwise he wouldn't have asked. Streaming is probably the single biggest factor contributing people leaving Afrihost.
