For a capped product, I do not want to be hearing "demand will be managed", I want to be hearing " an upgrade is planned for xx/xx/xxxx".

I moved from uncapped because I was tired of the better half saying "Internet's not working properly". She seems to be saying it a lot more recently.

We're optimising our network to deliver the best experience. We believe that the demand we're seeing is pretty marginal and by making our network management more efficient we can manage that demand better to ensure best throughput and overall experience.

Was getting 650k/sec on NNTP on a 20mbps line last night. Switched over to VOX and had no trouble reaching 2MB/sec. Things are weirdly choppy this morning too - Youtube is barely keeping up with the stream. Are there issues in the South? Things have been absolutely flawless since I re-signed with AH, so I'm hoping this is just temporary?

We are seeing some throughput issues between 7pm and 10pm in the South, seems intermittent based on how much demand there is. We're busy reworking and optimising the management software and processes to make the network more efficient overall to better manage this brief demand spike.

Sorry, just to clarify, those symptoms are specifically in the South but the improvements made should benefit the entire network as well.

As long as managing doesn't mean shaping capped accounts, like WA have done.

Is MTN going to look at their route propagation to sort out the connection issues? IS (which others are mentioning here) seems faster at the mo because of multiple routes being taken where as we seem to be going through predominantly one route. Browsing/general connection here in Durban is barely usable.

No, not at all. It would be focussing on Uncapped accounts and tightening up our management to be more reactive and ensuring that we close any shaping loopholes so that we can keep demand where it should be.

I'm not sure whether you are referring to local routing or international routing. On both counts MTN have major fibre links to make use of. Even in the very unlikely event of a fibre link going down completely, there are alternative routes and secondary failover routes which can be employed.

Our Johannesburg branch can't connect at the moment - call centre checked and reset the port but still nothing. Said it looks like a possible authentication issue - if you're already connected don't disconnect.

Nothing wrong with the line - can connect into the branch router as we also have a Telkom VPN connection set in the router which is working fine.

Can't connect here either in Cape Town (Salt River) - connects fine using my FNB Connect account.

EDIT: Okay, I see now Afrihost has posted issues on their Network Status page. Some Telkom outage, although not sure how that explains why I can still connect on FNB Connect.

The outages may not be limited to these areas. We will continue to post updates as we receive more information regarding the outages occurring. We apologise to affected clients for the inconvenience.

International... perhaps it's time for them to go to an alternative route.
