How do you define 'degraded'? Because, in reality you are blocking it completely

Afrihost will never admit to blocking or shaping capped accounts.

There are far more creative words to use, like "prioritisation" and "degraded" or "actively managed".

Thing is, it appears all capped accounts in SA are now "actively managed", so even though you sign-up for a set amount of bandwidth, you cannot ever use it the way you would like.

That is up to the ISP to decide.

We're going backwards fellow DSL users, backwards I tell you.
 
No, it is a comment about torrent download speeds on Afrihost CAPPED accounts which are theoretically unshaped. I have a 10 mbps line, but for most of yesterday and today, I am only getting 2 kbps. Yes, that's right, 2 kbps. That is not a typo.

P2P and some downloads may be slow due to an increase in demand, this won't be around for much longer though :)

Sorry you feel that way, as I said though - we know things aren't great at the moment.
Although we are seeing some improvements, and with the upgrades implemented it'll be back to normal.
 
Nothing is being blocked.
Again, upgrades are on the way.

Sorry about the poor experience.

Poor response. We want what we are paying for. Unshaped capped internet. You are not delivering that. How is your infrastructure shortcomings the customer's problem?
 
I feel like a woman that has a hair appointment tomorrow, and having a seriously good hair day today.

I have cancelled my Afrihost account, but now, the sluice gates are open. I am getting full line speeds, and I have been getting them, without problems, for the last 3 days.

I'm not gonna fall for your tricks, Afrihost.
 
Poor response. We want what we are paying for. Unshaped capped internet. You are not delivering that. How is your infrastructure shortcomings the customer's problem?

It definitely isn't, however this is something that was quite tough to have planned.
We've learnt a lot, and will come out the other side a better ISP.

Feedback is looking better than what we've seen before - and with the upgrades I'm sure everything will be back to normal soon.

If it is not shaping and just contention and degradation as you claim, then UNCAPPED customers who use turbocharge will be getting 2 kbps as well during their turbocharges. But that is clearly not happening. So how do you explain that? Contention only affects CAPPED accounts?

This affects accounts across the board.

You know what would lessen the pain quite a bit? A refund (partial, maybe?) of my money.

I have been with afrihost non-stop for the past 5 years, but these NON-Explanations are starting to annoy me. How any level of contention can drop a download speed from 1000 kbps to 2 kbps is beyond me? That makes no sense whatsoever! That means the line is oversubscribed 500 times, and yet the only response is, 'Slight contention', 'Degraded', etc. How does that help me, the customer? It is an absolute scandal. At least make an effort and say something reasonable!

You can learn a bit about transparency and truthfulness from crystal web
They promised to be honest upfront with any problems they encountered and it obviously worked for them since they seem to have quite a few customers now.

maybe take a leaf out of their playbook because seriously nobody is buying that degraded service line.
be honest upfront, i have a feeling you loosing more clients because of that degraded service line than anything else
people are willing to be patient if you honest about the situation which right now you aren't doing so ie 2 kbps isn't degradation of service its plain down shaping.

whats obvious here is that afrihost aren't willing to be honest and will put a SPIN on all responses

i really do hope you guys come right and at the very least start being honest again.
not a lot of people will trust you again after the obvious spin you guys are putting on shaping

will give you guys a chance again if things turn around but for now my business will be going to crystal web

Do you constantly see results like this or is it a bit up and down?

What you still fail to understand is he should not be seeing that at all. Not once, twice, seven times. The fact that it looks like that means he is being robbed. He is not getting the service that he is paying for. You are giving capacity that he is paying for to someone else.
