Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

And Afrihost's call centre would like me to believe that the current poor speeds having nothing to do with their move to MTN.

Amazing that when switching to SAIX all the problems resolve themselves

Im on 4MB capped account and getting much slower speeds internationally and gaming is horrid.

Echo'ing this.

The quality of connection has been very bad today. Latency very spikey, and overall very high to international games.

I am on Afrigamer 35GB. Its been fairly bad since the switch to MTN. Local often seems to be ok (but not always) with download speeds and latency similar to what it was before. But international has high latency and low speeds. I am often sitting on 250ms+ to Europe where it was 190-200ms before the switch. International download speeds are often under 1Mbps where it was generally over 3Mbps before. Youtube sometimes struggles to play 360p where it used to be all good on 480p. This is mostly from observations made between 1800 and 0100. International is not always bad, but the few times its good its still not as good as before.

I see quite a few issues being reported here. Please guys, PM me so I can have a support consultant look into this. We are managing to sort out a lot of these type of issues, and it just takes a little troubleshooting and tinkering.

Also bear in mind that this network is 14 days old (i've said this in another thread, I'm sure). We are still learning and the network is still learning and storing information about how to perform and how to maximise it's resources. For a network to operate at the level and size it is in such a short time is a miracle, but it will still take us time to get to the point we had at IS where their network has evolved and been tweaked over years and years. We'll get there, but we need your feedback and assistance to get all the information processed to get this thing running like a bomb!

"PM me so I can have a support consultant look into this."

Your "consultant" could hardly speak English and would like me to believe that the problem was simply my setup. Not so ... there was zero problems prior to your change to MTN. And if I change my ISP account to SAIX - I get full speeds.

This morning - google hardly loads, facebook taking forever and download speeds are non-existent. Even mybroadband.co.za was struggling to load.

My mail server will no longer send this morning- "IPB0 421 4.2.1 Connection refused due to IP restriction"
and my POP server won't connect due to time out issues. Both are hosted overseas.

On attempting to ping cnn.com I get " Ping request could not find host"

This is a joke and am ready to cancel my account. Why should we pay to beta-test your new network.

mitchmagi different consultant, not a "telephone answerer and read off help screen" PM him as he says then the boffins can look at YOUR things.

Afriman say boffin instead of consultant ......... :-)

Still continues to give disappointing pings. Used to get around 203 to Europa the Ultima Online server. It is now up to around 350 at times. No change since the move to MTN. Games like WoW sits at 250 after the move, used to be 170 before. On my WA account all is good. The drop in Afrihost performance is almost definitely related to the move to MTN.

:(

BladeRunner Did you PM Afriman? Beech here and PM Afriman with your details

just my two cents worth, this week with my afrihost account, gaming has been a pipe dream.

Starting to miss the ol' no hassels Afrihost....

Afriman, i'll pop you a PM.

Thanks for the honesty Afriman - still learning, will still take a while to get to the point we had at IS. Question: will the fact that you're learning on us, and that you're behind where you were with IS, reflect in our pricing? Because my 60GB capped account is still costing me the same as it was costing me on IS...

For me its bye bye Afrihost ...as of today im back on SAIX ... Let me know when MTN can provide what we need and Ill try again :wtf:

The cheek to use the customer base as guinea pigs is just beyond me. Could no-one foresee what is needed?

MTN is a huge company in Africa - you want to tell me that no-one was worried about routing from Cape Town to MTN's server??

Pings of 300mS is enough for me to get out my old rusty razor blade....
