Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Thanks for the response. Hop 3 is strange indeed, hop 2 is our DSL modem so what firewall can this hop 3 be? Something in Telkom's exchange or what? Anyone have an idea?

It's hard to confirm but the spikes in latency could indicate a line or exchange issue. We're seeing a lot of traces where the BRAS times out, this is probably due to being upgrades to BNG's and not configured to respond to ICMP traffic, but makes the traces harder to read. From the trace whatever is causing the latency is intermittent, but the sudden jump to 542ms is very concerning :(
 
Something's not right at all tonight, I just got a media error on a capture screen, many pages are loading blank, streams are not running from prime servers such as BBC and SKY TV and secondary servers are showing the opening frame of the video but reporting "File not found" when you hit play.

Speed test is fine so it is definitely something happening at a packet level.

EDIT: My bad, I had Hola active earlier and had not disabled it.
Things are slightly better without it but still buffering badly. Streams that normally run at >500KBs as running at only 60-100KBs tonight.

Not seeing general throughput or latency issues from my monitoring. Can you post some diagnostic results that I can look at?
 
Netflix is useless tonight. Getting pretty much full line speed (3.5mbit from 4mbit line), but buffers every 3 or 4 minutes :/

That sucks. If throughout and latency are good then it may be an issue on Netflix side. Can you see how much throughput you are getting to the server?

And what could this hop 3 be all about? It's after our DSL router so must be something Telkom is doing?

The 3rd hop is traditionally on our network (depending on your setup) but there is no way to determine if latency is introduced in between the 1st and 3rd hop (which has a lot of infrastructure in between)
 
Wth afrihost? Why was I billed R89 for a 4Gb package? Just received debit order SMS from my bank. Not cool. Are you guys billing me for plus + which I cancelled long before the first billing run?

Looks like it was confusion over cancelling Simfy, looks like the option to NOT cancel Simfy was selected. Please reply ASAP so we can try to sort this out :(
 
Hhmm, that's a little slow for your line :( Have you run any troubleshooting with our team?

yes i have....all they do is reply and say that my line is syncing correctly therefore the line is working......

i don't have the energy to log a 4th ticket for the same response.

What has happened to streaming tonight??

Speed test is 100% fine but I have tried 5 different streaming servers and all are playing for 2 min and then buffering for 5min.

It is almost as if streams are being shaped and everything else is running at full speed.
I hope they are not testing new software on the Routers again.

Anyone else in the Western cape or anywhere for that matter seeing this behaviour?

EDIT:

Glasnost says the account is not shaped, but then It also did during the Router Upgrade saga
late last year.

Weird. In south peninsula as well. Suddenly lost all throughput. Working now but like dial up.
 
International pings are through the roof for me. Across multiple ISPs. Local is fine.

Don't bother with speedtest. All ISPs prioritize it including AH. They admitted as much last year during the last debacle. All it shows is what your line speed would be like without "optimization" (you're not allowed to say "shaping" on capped)
