Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

I have also had the same issues. You can see a Tracert test I posted this week cant stream Youtube, Netflix or any media. This is all on a 4mb capped account.

This month I have used 27% of my cap not because I wanted to but rather because my family gets frustrated with trying to stream and we have given up.

Regards

Afrihost, we all now that service experience is negatively influenced by the Network Management system you put in place. We also know you put it in place to (among other things) manage the IPC capacity you have more efficiently. So either you are again running out of IPC or are going to soon. This is some news for you, but you are testing your software on paying customers and still expect them to pay full price. you can actually measure the issues at Afrihost by the fluctuation of complaints on this forum. FEB/MARCH 2014 - IPC, SEPT/OCT 2014 - IPC, MAR 2015 - Network Management glitches. So why do you keep saying there are no issues. You also keep addressing each individual problem separately. EVERYONE is experiencing packet loss, take ownership and sort it out. It isn't just they few members on this forum that's complaining. Streaming has been an issue for years, but still you think it is localised to a few people (even admitting that all the issues are coming out of the South is general enough!) Stop being ignorant!

+1
ah you must sort out your problems and stop blaming other people as it affects all your customers
problems which now happens any time of the day

Definitely not the experience that you should be having, especially with a line at that speed.

What time more or less was the video call more or less? I just want to check that there wasn't anything strange happening on our side during that time.

17:00 till 20:00. From Port Elizabeth.

Afrihost - stream youtube video on my 4mb line buffers. Never had an issue with my 2mb line with Telkom.....

I've tried it on IE, Chrome and Firefox.

Works fine on all of them with my 2mb uncapped WA account. If i switch over to my capped account with AH, it's a no go. I have a 10MB line running. End of this month i'm linking up all the rooms in the house to access Netflix, and I'm hoping to use my AH account to stream, but if I can't get it working on the AH account i'll have to up the uncapped with WA to run it smoothly.

We'll definitely figure out what is causing this, and we'll correct it for sure.

At this point we're looking into your account specifically, I think we may provide you with an Business Uncapped account in the interim to see if that makes any difference.

From which region are you using your ADSL account from? And which Streaming services are you using primarily?

Hi Afrigene - See post http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/687074-ASDL-congestion-Vredehoek

This is where I have Tracert it. Its general browsing and all aspects of streaming. Facebook on PC, phone slow. Youtube struggles. Netflix I have stopped trying as we are seeing an issue on our devices and I have not even wanted to try Netflix.

Sometimes I cant even access mybroadband or windguru before timeouts. As I said in first post this has become very bad after I returned from the USA was away for the entire month of Feb.

Now that I am back its extremely slow. Even my Catchup Plus titles do not display when connected via wifi ( which used to be perfect ).

Speed tests returned horrible results of pings greater than 100ms and slow speeds.

I'm open to anything at this point.

If it works, i'll swap to an uncapped account if need be and pay the difference, i really don't mind. I just want it to work. You are more than welcome to use Team Viewer and see if I have missed anything in the settings somewhere that might explain why i cant stream netflix properly, just dont delete anything please :p

I had a look at the traceroute that you posted, and I have to agree with Johnatan56, there is either damage on line or even the port at the Exchange.

Could you please send me a PM with your ADSL details, let me have a look at your account and line to see if there are any issues.

I regret buying more GBs now. My wife is home trying to watch Netflix and the internet is saying unable to connect. She restarted the router and it worked for 5 mins then died again.

That's not cool!

Could you send me a PM with the ADSL username, she should definitely not be having authentication issues.

Getting slow speeds all week. Is this an Afrihost issue or not? Anyone else?

Hi!

You should definitely not be seeing any sort of prolonged issues with speed. Which region are you connecting from? And could you possibly post a speedtest result?

No worries, just wanted to know if it's a general problem. We had a Telkom outage for more than half a day on Tuesday due to "upgrades" and I think it's probably related to that. Western Cape region.

If you do see a drop in speed again, can you please let me know, I should be able to see if there is a drop in the line stats or if there is an issue on the Exchange.

Checked again today as per my daily routine 10% packet loss on TS3 typefrag servers and LoL and CS are unplayable with packet loss again. Switch to my web africa account and I get 0 problems, I tried my afrihost account at 3 different houses over the last 2 days and it has the same problem everywhere I use it but when I use any other ISP I have 0 problems at all.

Something is definitely up with torrents. Everything else seems oke?

Hmmmm .... Torrents with me are fine...

torrent.jpg

Torrents aside... streaming is sucky... buffer buffer buffer then OK for a short while then buffer buffer buffer again.
This is on YouTube and TuneIn Radio.
Browsing is also a tad iffy... up and down, then fine for a while then sluggish again.

Change ISP and buffering vanishes, browsing is perfect...
