One is Afrihost and one is another ISP. I'll let you guys take a stab at which is which.

I'm tired of this Afriguys. Seriously.

Can you ping the same server during an off-peak period and get better results? We definitely are seeing a small increase in latency for short periods in the evenings due to the extra P2P traffic (which we're working to bring under control). So I think we can assume that you may find pings during that period may be higher, seems especially between 9 and 10pm last night, for short periods.

This is the CAPPED thread. Are you saying uncapped rules are affected us capped users?? My P2P downloads are and have always been fine, my issues are with realtime traffic like streaming and gaming! I'm sure this is the case for 99% of the complaints on this forum!

Although there are times these issues are less experienced, this is not new and looking back at the forums, are highlighted to Afrihost every month for the past few years!

Again I say, Afrihost just can't compete on the level of IS backbone ISP's.

dude, just leave AH. I did and you know what? My world didnt end. In fact Im glad I did. Took me over 6 months to grow the balls though.

Yes I cant download quite as much, but my whole internet experience is what it should be now.

Not this constant up and down bull****. It was bloody exhausting and quite frankly I got sick of it.

It sure seems like it most of the time.
Something isn't right with these capped accounts, they behave similar to the uncapped products, not as bad, but from what I see it is not a true capped product like other ISP's promote.

I completely agree, I actually do downgrade my account and the the last few days of the month it starts to look better, and I think maybe it was just a bad patch with Afrihost. Come the 1st when I upgrade again and all goes to hell!! But from May I'm gone!

I don't think that's true at all and I believe in terms of market we've grown massively since going onto the MTN backbone. I think clients make their choice based on trust and their experience, and clients come to us for our unique approach. While there may be problems, I don't think any of competitors offer the same client-orientated focus and are able to continually surprise their clients with extra value and products.

Remember that we have one network with various 'pipes' for Capped, Uncapped etc. When demand is high on any of those, it will affect contention on the overall network. Capped and Business are unshaped so we don't act on their traffic, but how effectively we shape Uncapped traffic will affect overall contention on the network. So I am referring to this relationship and nothing else.

Our Capped accounts are true unshaped products. What clients are experiencing is contention, which is higher than we'd like an may "feel like" shaping to some extent. But this is not a ruleset or policy acting on traffic but a by-product of high demand on the network.

The end destination is correct but only one of those URL's will actually get to ClientZone in the end, so there is only one correct answer.

Then maybe i'm just a grammar Nazi, because it seems to me the question is badly worded.

Yes granted there are some nice features and pricing structures that Afrihost have that is better than other ISP's, BUT the internet experience for medium - heavy users (uncapped and 50GB+ Capped accounts) are lacking. This is proof by reading the comments of many on this forum.

So in plain terms, to immediately alleviate the issues for capped users you will have to shape Uncapped users to hell! Or are you saying that IPC capacity is an issue AGAIN??

So what I'm saying is that right now we're not shaping Uncapped users as hard as they should be. So someone who should be getting X amount of P2P traffic is actually getting X+ because he's using a traffic signature we're not classifying correctly or somehow disguising his traffic as realtime so as not to be shaped. When Uncapped users are shaped as they should be shaped, we should see less impact from demand on the network. We'll know for sure once all the planned changed have been fully implemented.
